I think Claude's (Sonnet, Opus, Fable) weirdest behavior is, when iterating on a document it will constantly include references to prior versions of the document that no one will ever see. Like:

Blocks is such a prototypical low bar AWS move. You have a great customer/partner in Supabase, doing incredibly well. Clearly there's a niche. So you come in and you copy them almost directly. Same thing as Kiro vs. Cursor where Cursor was a run away hit. Cheap/easy to 2-pizza team out. Requires minimal PM brainwork. Immediately makes startups question working with you.

Meta reached to interview me for a principal role the same week they decided to layoff 8,000 people!

I’m sure there was at least 1 out of those 8,000 people who got let go who would’ve been a good fit for the role they wanted to hire me for. A few of my staff engineer friends got let go so I know this is true.

Instead they:
- axe everybody
- treat them like a cost
- rehire where there’s pain

What ever happened to employee retention?

Why do companies expect us to be loyal to them if they don’t even try to retain us when they have hundreds of billions of dollars?

It would be cheaper financially for them to retain one of those 8,000 people. It would be cheaper emotionally for the people who got let go too

How do these big tech companies expect people to put their blood, sweat and tears into work while also saying, “yeah we’ll cut you at any moment.”

I don’t know. The culture around AI and layoffs has gotten unbelievably toxic

I strongly believe there are entire companies right now under heavy AI psychosis and its impossible to have rational conversations about it with them. I can't name any specific people because they include personal friends I deeply respect, but I worry about how this plays out.

I lived through the great MTBF vs MTTR (mean-time-between-failure vs. mean-time-to-recovery) reckoning of infrastructure during the transition to cloud and cloud automation. All those arguments are rearing their ugly heads again but now its... the whole software development industry (maybe the whole world, really).

It's frightening, because the psychosis folks operate under an almost absolute "MTTR is all you need" mentality: "its fine to ship bugs because the agents will fix them so quickly and at a scale humans can't do!" We learned in infrastructure that MTTR is great but you can't yeet resilient systems entirely.

The main issue is I don't even know how to bring this up to people I know personally, because bringing this topic up leads to immediately dismissals like "no no, it has full test coverage" or "bug reports are going down" or something, which just don't paint the whole picture.

We already learned this lesson once in infrastructure: you can automate yourself into a very resilient catastrophe machine. Systems can appear healthy by local metrics while globally becoming incomprehensible. Bug reports can go down while latent risk explodes. Test coverage can rise while semantic understanding falls. Changes happens so fast that nobody notices the underlying architecture decaying.

I worry.

An employee just asked for a second monitor.

Standard request.

Usually takes 3 clicks to approve.

But they submitted the ticket under Software Procurement instead of Hardware Request.

If I process it, my internal audit metric takes a hit for cross-category resolution.

So I rejected it and told them to submit it correctly.

They submitted it under Network Outage.

I rejected it again.

They emailed me directly, CCing their director, asking why I am blocking their productivity.

I replied all with a link to our KB article on How to Select the Correct Dropdown Menu.

The director replied to me privately to just give them the monitor.

I said I would, pending a properly categorized ticket.

Eventually, the ticket arrived in the right queue.

I approved it in four seconds.

Time to resolution: four seconds.

Process is a beautiful thing.

If companies can do whatever they want for their own benefit, the employees can do the same. Employers have taken this relationship to this level, not the employees. Stop crying.

On May 9-10 the IAF targeted 14 PAF bases or radar stations/missile batteries…

Destructive evidence of almost all these strikes cane up in satellite pictures…

All strikes were carried out by precision munitions from long distances…

Not one missed aim or strayed to harm civilians… no school, no village or city, no hospitals. None…

This despite not having a fraction of the US military weapons, sensors or surveillance ability…

And in a furiously contested air space against near-peer PAF and its Chinese air defences…

Let’s give credit where due. To our armed forces in this case…
