On Thursday, in an all-staff meeting with over 1000 attendees online and in person, 944 attendees participated in a vote with 93.3% saying they have “no confidence” in the VC and University Executive Board.
Well! When I said yesterday that confidence was ebbing away, little did I imagine that over 10% of staff at @SheffieldUni would turn up to a joint-union held meeting to vote no confidence in UEB's leadership. 944 votes with 93.3% no confidence according to @SheffieldUCU. Brutal.
Literally years late, but making the move. Find me over the rainbow in the happier blue place under the same username. Deleting this sometime before the new year. 🖖 all
Across universities the financial pressures are leading to big changes. @qm_ucu have been documenting proposed course closures and job losses https://t.co/wdkgqB9cv7
Fascinating document related to HE national bargaining has come to light through FoI. It's striking just how much policy relating to industrial action is set by UCEA and enforced on employers through 'expectations' that it will be followed. Full doc: https://t.co/ZnaBXsA7O7
"For partial performance, arising generally through action short of a strike, an approach will be assessed using the key principle that the proportion of pay to be withheld will depend on the impact of the industrial action."
How interesting, UCEA. How very interesting.
Burnout isn't about hours worked.
In fact, there are usually much deeper causes.
Leaders should start to recognize when it's occurring,
And take steps to help.

We have serious growing concerns around the ongoing repression of discussion of Palestine and the ongoing violence in the Middle East within our University.

"Non-academic staff are now also being targeted, with 400 non-academic staff in Professional Services being cut" -
Having previously worked in PS at Hallam, it's gross that the university thinks its teaching and research can function properly with such huge cuts to PS staff 😢
@MamaSitaa__ You're beyond right and this is a gross, ableist, and sexist policy, but I imagine your daughter is probably worried she'll be targeted if you email. Can you organise 10-20 or so parents to all send emails? That would make it less about 'her mom', and more about 'parents'.
The loss of Agnes is heart breaking and just such a horrible shock. This tribute from Nottingham UCU captures so much good about her, as an activist and as a person. We are going to miss you so much. I am so sorry to everyone who knows and loves her.
📢Tomorrow, 10 August, join people across Sheffield for the National Day of Protest at 12pm at Barker’s Pool.
