In a paper just out, I refresh the environmental complexity hypothesis, clarifying the broad role of cognition from an evolutionary perspective: https://t.co/6t5Ijgxx7h
@cricketcomau Who ever signed off on the Australian team playing this series less than a week after the World Cup should resign. It is disgraceful they not all home celebrating.

Social learning requires both a learner (receiver), and an individual who is learned from (sender), but we often ignore that evolution works on both parties. In a new paper, I explore what happens when allow both sender and receiver jointly evolve:

@willjharrison@Lincoln81@lakens@sharoz It's about using information contained in the sample to estimate things. In a one sample t-test, you have to first calculate the mean, substacting 1 from N represents this use of the information in the mean before the t-test. In a two sampled t-test you calculate 2 means, so N-2
Huge new model of *social learning* out from @RouseTurner in work with @stephenfmann, Rob Magrath, (nominally) me, & Kim Sterelny:
A general framework for the joint evolution of sender & receiver investment in social/asocial learning, teaching, & masking

This is easy for me to say because I've never submitted to NeuroImage, but I really hope all the people celebrating this huge move 1) *stop submitting to NeuroImage* and also 2) consider the implications of journal choice for junior co-authors.
