She’d crept into my head with that first look, had slipped into my dreams with the first hateful word, and had lodged herself beneath my skin like a splinter I couldn’t draw free.
I looked down to find a dagger of ice pressed to my gut. She bobbed her chin over my shoulder and one look revealed the six wooden spears poised at my back. “By the stars, I love you,” I growled, claiming that smug smile and kissing it off of her lips.

"By the stars, I love you," I growled, claiming that smug smile and kissing it off of her lips.
"You'd be dead you know, if I had malicious
intentions," I told her, my eyes finding her mouth and staying there. "Are you sure?" her smile was cunning and wicked, all the things I liked best about her and I looked down to find a dagger of ice pressed to my gut.
“I hate him," I said. "I hate him more than anyone I've ever met. All he does is cause me pain." But I didn't feel those words. I felt Darius’s arms around me as we lay in his bed and he held me like he never wanted to let go.
“Cheerleaders sometimes support a certain player on the field,” Darius said as he pushed his hand into his pocket and took out a navy ribbon with the word Fireshield on it. “Will you cheer for me today, Roxy?”
In the end there was only her for me. I'd inked it onto my skin and it was branded on my heart. She owned me entirely and I was never going to make any other choice.
She was drinking me in, assessing me just like I was her and if I wasn't mistaken, the two of us were headed for one hell of a showdown pretty damn soon.
