If you work out FIRST THING in the morning, here’s how to fuel up properly:
- The day before, consume 50–75% of your carbs between (roughly) 2–8 PM
- Upon waking (within 1 hr pre-workout), stick to easily digestible options: sports drinks, fruit, bread, rice cakes, protein shake, or Greek yogurt
- Ideally include protein in that feeding but it’s non-essential for performance
- Test ONE pre-workout combo (Ex: Gatorade + protein powder OR toast + banana + Greek yogurt) for at least 1-3 weeks before switching
- Avoid heavy/harder to digest foods (eggs, pancakes, meats) right before lifting
- Don’t crush low-satiety calories early if your daily intake is low….protect adherence
