A Kenya Airways pilot has died after being found unconscious near the entrance of Nairobi West Prison along Langata Road, with detectives now treating the case as a murder following the results of a postmortem examination. According to police, Kelvin Wachira was discovered unconscious on July 19 by an officer attached to Prison Headquarters who was heading home.
He was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he died the following day despite receiving medical treatment. His body was transferred to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where a postmortem examination conducted on July 22 concluded that he suffered a head injury caused by blunt force trauma.
Investigators have since classified the case as murder. Preliminary investigations indicate that Wachira had visited the Nairobi West Prison officers mess at about 3 p.m. on July 19 to meet friends for drinks. Police say a confrontation later broke out between him and several people at the venue.
A waiter reportedly escorted Wachira to his white Mercedes Benz, which remained parked inside the prison compound. Investigators believe he later left the vehicle under circumstances that are still unclear before he was found unconscious outside the prison entrance.
The vehicle was later moved to the local police station as part of the ongoing investigation. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Langata have taken over the case. Detectives are interviewing witnesses, reviewing security camera footage, and working to establish what happened before and after the reported altercation.
Deep in my soul, I know Cheruiyot summited Mt Everest. My Theory, The Hillary Step accident happened when he was at the summit leading to the fall. Time will answer the unanswered questions, one day we shall know the truth.
#CheruiyotTheUnsungHero#CheruiyotLegacyLivesOn
In 1923, George Mallory, a British mountaineer, was asked by a reporter why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest. He simply answered 'Because it's there'.
In June 1924, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine, disappeared in the clouds near the summit of Mt. Everest. They never reappeared.
His body was found 75 years later in 1999 by Conrad Anker, an American mountaineer at an altitude of 8156m. The body was well preserved due to the dry air and freezing temperatures.
Conrad was part of an expedition (Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition) that sought to discover evidence of whether Mallory and Irvine had been the first to summit Mt. Everest. The team particularly hoped to find a Vest Pocket Kodak camera on Irvine's body that would have contained a picture of them at the summit. Conrad mistakenly got off course and surprisingly found Mallory's body.
Mallory had carried a photo of his wife that he planned on placing on the summit. Some of his personal possessions, perfectly preserved, included an altemeter, a pair of nail scissors, a handkerchief wrapped around some letters, a tube of petroleum jelly, a pocket knife, a box of matches (still in usable condition), a pencil, gear check lists and a pair of snow googles. The photo was never found suggesting that they may have reached the summit. Andrew Irvine's body has never been found.
This is not the end but the beginning. Cheruiyot is a seed planted...

"I honestly didn't expect him to die because the level of preparation he had done for this challenge was unlike anything I had seen. He worked with a budget of Sh7 million, he had everything right," said Kipkemoi, the late Kirui's friend.

You couldn't cover the heroic story of his summit attempt but all over sudden, very opinionated people it's now news because he is missing. This is just disgusting
JUST IN: Kenyan climber Cheruiyot Kirui reported missing above 8,000 meters on Mount Everest since the morning of Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
More details in my next post.
Hope, anxiety, prayers, panic, bitterness yet very optimistic of welcoming him back as the hero he is, gods of the mountains please protect him 🥺🥺🥺🥺please watch over him. Cheruiyot is a hero no matter what, he is a hero. Many won't understand but he is a hero!!!!!
Cheruiyot is currently trekking towards Everest Basecamp for a climb of his life. Everest summit attempt without supplemental oxygen. He is currently just past Namche Bazaar. It's impossible to overstate the magnitude of what he is undertaking. Climbing Everest is tough. Climbing Everest without supplemental oxygen is a different game altogether. Last September he summited Manaslu (8,163m) without supplemental O2. A short video between camp 1& 2 on Manaslu. #everest2024 #everest #kenya #goforit
So who is this guy, Cheruiyot Kirui? The Kenyan attempting to summit Everest without supplemental oxygen this season? Some say he is a full recreational Ultra and mountain/trail runner and a part time banker. But briefly...

+ Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895m) - Several speed climbs. Up and down 15 hours
+ Mt. Kenya 20+ times. Several speed climbs with course records on the 3 main routes. 2hours 56 minutes on Sirimon route (Old Moses to Lenana Summit). 3 back to back Lenana summits under 24 hours.
+ Rwenzonri (Mt. Stanley 5109m) - Expedition type climb over 6 days
+ Abardare ranges. Several routes. 1 self supported South-North traverse
Ultra Marathons:

+ Cappadocia Ultra Trail, Turkey (121km, 3,600m elevation) - October 2021

+ No Business 100, USA (166km, 3,900m elevation) - 2018
+ Beskidy Ultra Trail, Poland (96km, 4,900m elevation) - September 2017
Basically a good mix of endurance experience. Also, he is a good man.
May the mountain favour him. #Everest2024 #Everest #Kenya #kenyan #African #Africa
