This might be my favorite post-game heckling video of all time: an anonymous Texas Tech fan terrorizes Oklahoma’s post-game interviews after Tech beat OU 23-21 in 2005. Apparently JD Runnel’s son used to heckle his dad with the same chant to annoy him, which is hilarious.
If you ever doubt C.S. Lewis’ & Tolkien’s observation that we are all longing and homesick for somewhere we’ve never been, you only need to listen to a group of people sing Country Roads.
“I guess happiness was Lubbock, Texas in my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock, Texas growin' nearer and dearer
And the vision was gettin' clearer in my dreams
And I think I finally know just what it means
And when I die, you can bury me In Lubbock, Texas
In my jeans”
When you live in Culture War Mode there is always a battle to fight, a side to take, and people to fear.
When you live in God's Kingdom there's always a stranger to welcome, a neighbor to befriend, and an enemy to love.
How fitting that humanity, which plunged into death by eating forbidden fruit, should receive life and immortality by a meal provided by our Savior, the Last Adam.
How fitting that sinners, their unity rent asunder by hatred and violence, should be gathered into one communion by partaking of the one loaf, baked from many scattered grains.
How fitting that we, who are hard pressed and beaten down by evil, should be comforted and uplifted by drinking from the Lord’s cup, filled with the blood of grapes that have been trampled and pressed underfoot.
How divinely and beautifully fitting, on this holy Thursday, that we have our feet lovingly washed by the very God from whom we ran in terror and shame.
In Joey McGuire’s first-ever head coaching season, the Red Raiders head man earned Texas Tech’s first winning conference season since 2009, landed a Top 25 class for the first time in 10+ years, and beat both OU and UT in the same season for the first time ever. 🌵
I think God got so mad at us for bickering about whether or not to hold services on Christmas morning that he sent us a bomb-cyclone, blowing snow, and sub-zero temperatures. Nothing like a nationwide blizzard to shut down all our virtue signaling.
Merry Christmas!!
Best way not to become a grouchy old person is not to become a grouchy young person. Or middle-age person. For instance, we Jesus-followers might be more effective at sharing the good news if we weren’t in such a bad mood half the time. Grinch, heal thyself. It’s Christmastime.
