Integrating Policy with Practice
During the IRMG Training on Safeguarding, under the discussion on Risk Matrix formulation, Agaba Robert, Head of Programs at Set Her Free @SetHerFree1, emphasized that a "zero-tolerance" policy is only effective when supported by clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He noted that while policies set the standard, SOPs provide the essential roadmap for handling cases consistently and safely.
Furthermore, Robert advocated for a participatory approach to risk management, stating that controls are most effective when co-created with all staff. Involving the entire team ensures that mitigation strategies are informed by diverse perspectives and benefit from collective ownership.

"Safeguarding isn't just a skill—it's a mandate." — Kagoda Enoch, ED of @KabubbuP, closing out the latest LCA Uganda milestone of training member organizations in Safe Guarding and Risk management.
He highlighted that for CSOs serving vulnerable groups and urban refugees, risk management training is key to becoming better duty bearers. Huge thanks to @CapaidsUganda for the coordination!
Now, the call to action for all members: Let’s take this knowledge home to overhaul our systems, procedures, and accountability for the communities we serve. #Safeguarding #LCAUganda #CapacityBuilding

Preparation is cheaper than a crisis
During our Day III session, Richard Guma (Finance & Admin Manager, ACODEV) shared a vital lesson on risk: Knowing the "what," the "who," and the "impact" is only the beginning.
He reminded us that a Risk Register is a predictive tool, not just a historical record. "We must be cognizant of even the most unlikely risks," Richard noted. In the world of CSOs and coalitions, ignoring a 'low-likelihood' risk can quickly turn into an expensive but preventable disaster.

Throwing back to December, we launched a bold and innovative initiative to promote decent toilets, and our message remains clear: Accessing sanitation is a fundamental right for every girl. Everyone everywhere should have access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
With a focus on improving safety, hygiene, and restoring dignity at school, RPDI is building an Eco-San female-friendly toilet with a shower room unit at St. Anne's Preparatory School in Kabowa to ensure learners thrive.
