@Krubbled@marktenenholtz IMO not that hard (and I’m not talking about physical tasks à la Amazon worker) even pure software problems like low-latency or certain quant modeling workflows aren’t perfect to human-level even on Fable 5.5
I suggest that the right attitude to take toward the OpenAI math release is to imagine we have discovered a notebook full of results from a deceased mathematician. Our job it to make sense of the notebook.
AI could solve the Riemann Hypothesis, and people would still argue that it was never truly reasoning but instead interpolating within the collective mathematical consciousness of humanity in which the solution was already apparent from the literature present.
@DJWebbMath@giffmana yep, if they had solutions they were hiding cuz they "weren't certain enough about them", keeping them hidden and wasting mathematician's time on them (instead of other really unsolved problems/allowing us to verify them) is objectively worse.
@snr_boost@doomslide >Uses ChatGPT to write a paper
>OpenAI uses GPT to write a paper on the same subject
>Both papers are similar due to both being written by GPT
>Author gets mad that standard math notation was used 🤡
how this reads
