This is the month that this baby launches! "Hacking the Underground: Disability, Infrastructure, and London's Public Transport System." It's published by @UWAPress, in the Feminist Technosciences series. A 🧵.
I am still thinking *a lot* about American pragmatism and infrastructure studies; working on some intellectual histories there. Plus, quick update on the Arecibo project: that's a go-ahead! I've received funding for it and am heading on sabbatical to focus on this research!
I'm also behind on promotion!
This conversation with Lee Vinsel, recorded in April, was a joy. I'd just returned from the annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy, and you can definitely tell.

Yeah. I've been sick this week so I'm behind on promotion and such, but it was really fun to talk to my buddy @rsvelho in this episode of Peoples & Things. Raquel's work is exemplary in a number of ways, and I so enjoy thinking with her.

While I now get to celebrate tenure, it's an even wilder thing to only now, two years on, feel myself that I'm actually grieving in a healthy way, being given (by myself and others) space to do so.
I can share this now that it's been 2 years since my father passed away (after 10 years of illness). He passed away days before the semester began, book revisions were due, academia had to keep going for me.
My @insidehighered piece explores the pressure to continue as normal in academia during life changes, a pressure I've had to navigate since my brother's unexpected passing -- I'd love to learn how others have navigated a work-life balance⚖️

And then, when everything was handed in this summer, tenure portfolio and all, I completely fell apart. Grieving and mourning caught up to me, in ways I'd never been given tools to deal with, and boy oh boy, it was/is a wild ride.
So exciting to see my book out there! It's also true: @AlansTweets opens (and closes) this book. Though it pains me deeply that Alan didn't get a chance to read this version of the work, it comforts me that his contributions live here, too.
Have only just learned that @AlansTweets is not longer with us. He was a force. I am grateful for every word and moment he has ever shared with me. I'm so, so glad to have met him.
Everyone at Transport for All is heartbroken by Alan Benson's passing. Alan was an astounding campaigner and ambassador for the disabled community, our Board Co-Chair, and our friend. Our thoughts are with Yvonne, Alan's family, and all who knew him.
Exciting bit of news before the holiday break! Watch me update all my socials re: becoming Associate Professor w Tenure.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped me get here. A more comprehensive (but not exhaustive) list of thanks in my book, #HackingtheUnderground!
