Putting tariffs on Canada would only level the playing field with these alternative countries. But Canada would still enjoy a geographical advantage. Transportation would be significantly less.

They might try to source from other countries but they also have tariffs and increased shipping costs. Canada still has the advantage of geography.

@dkreative1 @MPelletierCIO @WatcherAfar Yes, the US can source from other countries. But that comes with increased costs and slower movement. Canadian resources even with tariffs would be competitive with other countries resources. It will just cost everyone more money.

@RiseOfAlberta Alberta would be handed whatever the US and Canada was offering. You wouldn’t have a single advantage in negotiations.

@Maverich440378 @realChasDarwin @LauraBabcock There is no economically feasible alternative to the US sourcing elsewhere either. Of course they can get things elsewhere but it will cost more. Which means they would likely still buy from Canada even with increased costs. Just for easy access.
