I appreciate you bringing up Professor Welshman Ncube’s career, but you are conflating an institutional exception with an English language convention.
My post is explicitly about English style and syntax guidelines, which dictate that we do not stack titles. In the English convention, 'Professor' is the highest single title of address and supersedes 'Doctor'. Whether a professor holds a PhD, an LLM, or a bachelor degree, standard English convention dictates they are simply addressed as 'Professor [Name],' never 'Prof. Dr.'
Furthermore, using an exceptional, decades-old edge case in the field of Law to disprove a general rule is a logical fallacy. While a tiny minority of brilliant scholars historically attained professorship through monumental research and publication without a PhD much like an exceptional Master’s thesis being upgraded directly to a doctoral level, it remains the overwhelming norm today that a PhD is a prerequisite for the role.
An exception does not negate the rule, and it certainly doesn't rewrite English grammar. The dual title remains a linguistic redundancy in English.
