@hecubian_devil The quintessential 21st century reactionary is a guy who calls himself Alpha Tradition posting “This is the life the left stole from you” over an ad for a Maytag dishwasher from the April 1972 issue of Good Housekeeping.
@TheRealERS This isn't about transplants or college degrees or race, this is fundamentally about age. Ethnic machine politics hasn't delivered the goods in *two* generations and has only survived by inertia. A 25 year old isn't gonna respect someone like Adriano Espaillat or Greg Meeks.
@a_luffa Thought it would somehow prove he knew more about the law than a lawyer he was arguing with. Wound up bailing on the first question and going back to playing minecraft.
@gayest_tone The "staatsraison" was cultivated by the post-war Adenauer government to fast-track an end to Allied Denazification policies, which was not only to the benefit of the West German political class but in geostrategic terms made it more conservative and anti-Soviet.
@Brien_Jackson When people complain about a political party abandoning its base, what they really mean is that ever since Disney bought Star Wars its neglected the desires of its legacy fandom in order to attract other consumers and as a member of that legacy fandom I feel alienated by this.
@Brien_Jackson The term "base" itself is thoroughly meaningless. Political parties don't really have social bases anymore, especially in the US, because they're mass membership organizations in name only.
Modern political parties have marketing demos and these are not the same thing.
@problemochile Issue here is that its the crooked borough bosses who've had a majority of the "legacy" populations (or whatever you want to call them) in the palm of their hands, and Mamdani has a much tougher time beating them to become mayor if all those transplants never came to NYC.
@thamosdeaf All Euros need to know that if the satanic evangelicals aren’t in the top 3 of your “Shittiest Thing About America” list then you simply do not know ball, and frankly if they aren’t #1 your America-hating credibility is suspect.

@_carlbeijer I'm an expert Politics Guy and I can tell you right now that Democratic Presidents constantly appointing Republicans to run the FBI was always just low-stakes bipartisan signaling that has never once bitten them in the ass.
@Wilson__Valdez Yeah it was "low stakes" when Obama put the Republican architect of the Afghanistan surge in charge of the Pentagon.
But no where as low-stakes as Democrats constantly putting Republicans in charge of the FBI, a habit that has never bitten any one of them in the ass.
@SethAbrams1@CantEverDie@HacknerTyler Given the rate at which people like this actually win red states I think I'm gonna go ahead and slam that "doubt" button, buddy.
