@secondzeit The original graffiti went up in the early 80s and as I recall just said “Ian Curtis Lives”. The new one isn’t that old. It was funded by the late Maurice Bennett I think, supermarket owner, beer aficionado and toast artist.
@publicaddress She’s nuts but gonna cut her a bit of slack here as I think she was referring to separate events. If she’d said “and those who faced down communism” there wouldn’t be any confusion. Pretty sure even Kimmy knows Hitler wasn’t a commie.
@fastercamels Saw it at a pre-vamped Embassy when it came out in 1863. The blind man tapping his cane at the edge of the precipice is a cheery metaphor.
@vurnt22@NYT Yes! Wenner claims this “philosophy of rock” crap in his defence. As though James Brown and Ray Charles who fought the system (and the law) every inch of the way didn’t learn some pretty deep shit in the process. Jagger went to the LSE and Townshend went to art school ffs.
@LukaszBuda Yeah. There’s some Frank I do like but he oozes contempt for the rock audience, and when you get past teenage tittering at the dirty stuff you realise, hey *I am* the rock audience!
@vurnt22 Possibly parallels the spectacular rise of women, who have tended that way organically since Connie Converse. I think it’s rubbed off on younger guys too, which is OK. For all its brilliance Sgt Pepper does have a slight touch of aristocrats at play!
