Considering investing into an iPad for both art and for my upcoming PhD. Do people think an iPad is worth it? If you use one, do you have any favorite apps for reading papers, note-taking, task organization, etc? @AcademicChatter@PhDVoice@OpenAcademics#AcademicTwitter
Here’s 2 emails to my former PhD supervisor. One is from Year 1, one from Year 3.
Find yourself a supervisor with whom you can build rapport and eventually become friends. No fame or expertise can make up for lack of connection.

I have been reviewing CV’s for a job position we have open. Many of the applicants are PhD and postdocs trying to give their first steps out of academia. Many struggle to convey a clear message about who they are and what they can do. That’s why I wrote down my advice.
@PhDVoice These are important stuff. I’m gonna leave them for study at a later time, just like the 9,999 other papers I downloaded into my EndNote Library!
@mkulkhanna Don’t stop believing in yourself. We learn from our mistakes and this is how we grow as an individual and a researcher. My best wishes for the acceptance that is around the corner!
Last week I posted list of strongest USA #hurricanes (North America only) based on estimated sustained winds at landfall. Folks wanted to know more, so I've extended list to include all Cat 4s. Note the *insane* cluster of nonstop Cat 4s nailing #Florida just after WW II. Nuts!
An area of low pressure has formed within a broader trough we have been watching several hundred miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico. This system has become better organized today, and a tropical depression is now likely to form by early next week.

The subtropical Atlantic is much warmer than normal and tropical Atlantic is near average. The region with above-normal SSTs in Atlantic correlates fairly well with typical June SST pattern associated with above-normal #hurricane seasons.
Today marks the official start of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. The tropics are quiet for now, but let's make sure we're all prepared before that changes. #HurricaneReady
When #CycloneTauktae hit the Indian state of Gujarat, it indicated the increased frequency and intensity of cyclones in the Arabian Sea.
