(using Nemo files) Find it, right click > properties> permissions, check "allow running as executable"
For a GUI to handle .appimage's, I like Gear Lever, available as a flatpak.
Download, scan, and it handles everything else

games obv take more power and they're actually pretty equal after you get above the idle/light use differences iirc

crazy how my laptop went from using ~25W average on windows to ~15W average on Mint to now ~10-12W on Arch, all doing more or less the same things (web use for HW)
