White House seating charts are written in an old language. Distance from the President is rank, and the seat at his right hand is the oldest honor in diplomacy, the one ambassadors used to fight duels over.
Today, at a table holding something like $20 trillion in market value, that seat went to Jensen Huang. Elon got the other one.
Now look where the model builders ended up. Dario Amodei sat six chairs up the table. OpenAI's seat went to Greg Brockman, not Sam Altman, diagonally across near the Vice President. Anthropic's second invite, cofounder Tom Brown, got the last chair on his side of the room.
So the protocol office just ranked the AI stack for you. Chips at the President's elbows. Distribution one ring out, with Zuckerberg and Pichai two chairs from the center and Bezos and Nadella flanking the VP. The frontier labs, the companies whose models this entire race is supposedly about, pushed to the edges.
And that ordering makes cold sense from where the government sits. There is one Nvidia. There are maybe four platforms that reach billions of people. But there are at least five labs shipping frontier models, all leapfrogging each other every few months. Washington seated the layers by how hard they are to replace.
The models made the headlines. The chips got the chairs.

Hey @MicrosoftTeams , we need a "Need to drop" button on the teams meeting so that participants who have to drop at the end of the meeting that is running beyond the the designated meeting time can drop without disturbing the call or having to type the message in meeting chat.

Claude doesn't count messages โ it counts tokens. That means some chats consume your limit 10ร faster than others.

For the first time, seniors from the Class of 2026 at South Point High School and Stuart W. Cramer High School returned to walk the halls of New Hope Elementary, where many of them began their journey in kindergarten.
This is the first AI cut.
And it will send shockwaves.
Remember: Jack is one of the greatest founders of all time. He created this platform that weโre all on, and has been early to many technological shifts. And Block was doing very well as a business.
So, for him to cut 40% of headcount in this way is a signal to everyone in tech: get good now. Become indispensable. Work nights and weekends. Learn the AI tools and raise your game. Or you might not make the cut, as an employee or as a company.
I know. That sucks. But capitalism is natural selection. The market is unforgiving, because you are the market. After all, itโs not like youโre buying some random gallon of milk from the store; youโre always buying the best product at the best price.
So too for apps: your customers are always installing the best piece of code they can get. And because AI is going to create new winners, if you arenโt the best in your market, someone may become better with AI. Particularly with the new agentic workflows.
To be clear: Blockโs severance is generous by any measure. 20 weeks of pay, six months of health insurance and vested equity, all of that goes far beyond any typical package. Jack did his level best to cushion the disruption. The laid off are a temporarily unfortunate class, as opposed to a permanent underclass.
But had he not leaned into the AI transition, he might have had to lay off more people, slowly, and over time, as faster competitors went after his market share.
How would they do that? Sure, AI isnโt a panacea by any means, but the closer you are to software engineering the more aggressively you need to embrace agentic workflows. The AI companies are already doing that, and places like Stripe, Shopify, Coinbase, and now Block are pushing hard on this area.
There will be overcorrection. But the fundamental technical innovation is real. And you need to either disrupt yourself or get disrupted.
The best follow up emails never say "following up"
They give the recipient a new reason to respond that *didn't* exist when you last reached out.

AI agents will be a big part of how we shop in the not-so-distant future.
To help lay the groundwork, we partnered with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target and Walmart to create the Universal Commerce Protocol, a new open standard for agents and systems to talk to each other across every step of the shopping journey.
And coming soon, UCP will power native checkout so you can buy directly on AI Mode and the @Geminiapp.
Yesterday we had a tech town hall in Zoho where we did a code review of the C++ code generated by the Claude Opus 4.5 model. It went on for hours late evening.
I now have a much clearer understanding of what these models do well: they are able to stitch together systems well, taking data from one system, reshape it and pass it to another system. There is often a lot of such "glue code" in these systems and that is not very complicated but it is very tedious.
In general, AI models have "memorized" all the open source too and they are able to recall patterns from them (with some possibility of hallucination). They are also able to stitch various open source pieces together well.
Our senior engineer had guided ("orchestrated" is the right word) this process. When the AI was stuck he helped "unstuck" it. This was a very vital contribution and without his experienced guidance, the AI output would not be useful.
We examined several C++ files with thousands of lines of code in each, looking for what I consider complex code. Most of it was straightforward glue code and only a tiny part of it was complex.
I suspect that the AI generated code tended to be needlessly verbose but I have to study it more to be sure.
On the whole, I am both impressed and not super awed. I believe we can do better ๐
