It's not that hazy as it was just done in September.
The problem is due to the NHTSA Stop. FSD stops so far back from the road edge that it ends up blindly committing to a turn, sometimes directly in front of oncoming traffic that it couldn't see. A few days ago, it got stuck in a decision loop that left me creeping forward into traffic, forcing me to disengage and reverse out of the way of a tractor-trailer.
@Steve_Kicinski@TechOperator You can pick up a Model 3 for under $15k, electricity is $10 per 300 miles at home, and maintenance is Basically just tires and windshield washer fluid.
I don't stay beside another vehicle in an overtake situation for more than 10 seconds, and definitely not 45 seconds, whether I'm passing or being passed. I will adjust my speed accordingly to complete the overtake in a timely manner, and I've yet to see FSD do that.
No, the pickup shouldn't have done what he did, but FSD shouldn't just ride beside someone else for so long either.
I'm not defending the driver, but I'm also not saying that FSD was completely innocent here. 14.3.x is horrible at riding in bad spots and being content in blocking up traffic, and I'm getting tired of seeing accounts posting about how FSD avoided a collision when its own behavior directly led to the situation in the first place.
Using poor driving as training data is why we have FSD camping in the left lane, paralyzed in another car's blind spot, and randomly dropping 10 MPH once it finally does manage to pass while still camping in the left lane. For having alleged superhuman capabilities, its driving is extremely mid. I should not be able to so easily out-perform it in basic traffic reading and road handling as often as I do.
@DirtyTesLa@trentsizemore@Oceanswave Even TACC is partially broken now. Cruising along on the highway and it suddenly drops 10 MPH for "Curvature Assist". Mind you, this was a super mild curve that I've driven thousands of times before at higher speeds.
Who makes an aftermarket dumb-cruise module for Teslas?
@TheWis65 That's why he cut you off. FSD is horrendous lately with riding in uncomfortable places near other vehicles.
FSD is causing this behavior, not avoiding it.
@Gfilche@Tesla@SpaceX I don't want a merger. I don’t even want SpaceX to be a public company. Can't enable abundance and super low-cost products if you spend your time optimizing for shareholder return.
It’s only on FSD. Manual driving and TACC are totally smooth. I think 13.2.9 was the only version that didn’t do this at all, but it used an actual cruise control stack for speed.
Cybertruck FSD just seems to be worse than S3XY FSD based on what I see and hear from other owners.
