@eli_wyman Fair. By “fairly common” I mean that I get sent pictures by people once or twice a year asking me if I’ve seen this before. So maybe not THAT common.
1/3 to 2/3 of crop systems studied worldwide would produce higher yield if they had more pollinators (ie, suffer from pollinator limitation). Just published by lab postdoc Katie Turo in Nature Ecology & Evolution - read it here https://t.co/sfPUrGqT18
@Jess_Osterhout This one is not really an unwritten rule, but good advice I got early in my career. Learn to be a good collaborator, ask for feedback from the people you work with. Learn which things you do well and the things you need to work on. This applies outside academia as well.
@Jess_Osterhout People quickly forget what you did last year. 1) celebrate your successes, 2) don’t be afraid to toot your own horn (self-nominated for awards).
@_JohnMola Yeah, I am always behind on email too. However I am intentional with making time to celebrate the good things that happen in the lab, guilt free. We just got two grants this week so next weekend we are having a lab campfire and champagne in my backyard. Then back to the grind.
@BurrackBugs For family friendly fun, A Bug’s Life is a tough one to beat. Mimic (1997) is a favorite of mine. And Beginning of the End (1957) for classic insect cinema. Basiclly anything but the Bee Movie. Every copy of that should be rounded up and dumped in the sea (metaphorically).

@EeraertsMaxime@naturealexk@IsaacsLab @osterman_julia @WilliamsBeeLab@MajRundlof I think the recommendations here are pretty reasonable. I have always relied on luck. I have thought about taking out an advertisement in a local paper or posting on Facebook to leverage community scientists but never tried it. Maybe others have?
