@WakeGOV@ncdhhs@WCPSS @GregFordNC A decade ago, WCPSS didn’t close down at the possibility of snow. Then, one year, we learned the hard way: kids stuck overnight.
Let’s not learn the hard way, this time. The kids will be fine. No one is disputing that. But their grandparents, older teachers, etc.? Not fine.
@WakeGOV@ncdhhs@WCPSS @GregFordNC Churchgoers? Not a high risk population.
Sporting event fans? Not a high risk population.
Concert fans? Not a high risk population.
The vast majority of illnesses that come into my house? I get sick from one of my kids, who caught it at school. Because kids are kids.
I suppose one good thing about a whole food, plant based diet is that even as the store supplies dwindle, I’ll probably still be the lady in aisle 6 who instructs strangers on how to cook dried beans and identifies the random weird vegetables in her cart.
@RaleighStPats I recognize that you're following the state's recommendations. But with an eye toward the rest of the world, there's a very good chance that those will change dramatically over the next few weeks, and we're probably going to be learning those lessons the hard way. :(
@lhawthorn@tobie Yeah, I usually just ignore when it's done to me. It feels crappy, though. I'm sorry. I do find that when I speak up consistently on behalf of others, someone is more likely to speak up for me. So I try to console myself that way, lol.
@lhawthorn@tobie In that circumstance, I try to delicately give the credit, e.g. "Glad to see there's interest in this idea. Sarah suggested it in <smaller forum> and a bunch of folks were +1 on it, so thanks, Joe, for bringing it to a broader forum for discussion."
@lhawthorn Or maybe it's that we're all conditioned to discount women's voices a bit more, so when a woman shares an idea, people are less likely to have it "register" in the first place. Women, being socialized to care more about feelings, might override that more readily. I dunno.
@lhawthorn Ergo, I assume that there's some explanation (perhaps partly biological and partly socialized) for why men seem to do this more often. Maybe it has something to do with how women on average are better able to switch attention contexts and/or manage multiple streams at once.
@jonmasters I’m continually surprised that when a work from home, my dog is far needier than my kids. I suppose my presence does disrupt his weekday napping routine... 🤨
