@mtracey When I clicked into the tweet you’re quoting I genuinely expected it to be focused on this condom situation… but it isn’t. At all.
It’s actually a really detailed and well-founded critique of the NYT reporting process, which makes this particular tactic look pretty scuzzy
@MangaMeathead@GranTorinoDSA But I disagree on hardcore fans being the best source for positive change / evolution of the game. At least in my experience, the conservative / traditionalist streak is so strong that any sort of questioning of established rules (or even tactics) is met with scoffs or anger
@MangaMeathead@GranTorinoDSA I agree you don't make substantial changes w/ discussion, testing in lower leagues, etc. And that there would of course be knock-on effects, potential for perverse incentives / Cobra Effect stuff... all would need to be factored in / tested.
@MangaMeathead@GranTorinoDSA WC brings a lot of new viewers who bring up these Q's on whether different elements of the game are well-balanced.
Hardcore fans are the proverbial fish that doesn't realize it's in water, and tend to lash out when any questions are asked or suggestions are made for improving
@MangaMeathead@GranTorinoDSA If that's the goal, then there's prob room for reconsideration of blanket rule that foul in the box = PK (esp b/c it wasn't always that way)
There are plenty of PKs given that are inside the area, but not tied to any play resembling a scoring chance, which can be overly penal
@noways_tired@neontaster It's both of these - "why not just finish it out, there's only 2 episodes left" + "wait, that show I genuinely loved finally debuted the 2nd season? when? I can't even recall what had happened, so now I need to watch a refresher video, & I've started watching other stuff, and..."
@MrDanielBuck Why does every drawing in this "type" of book always appear so flat / 2D / childish / half-assed?
It's basically become the house style of woke artwork, and it's so bizarre and unattractive
@honorablesaint And sad is it is to say, Pulisic just isn’t the guy. That was glaringly obvious today.
He didn’t want the spotlight from 1st whistle, deferred & laid off the ball constantly, rather running at defenders, then tapped out as soon as the opportunity was presented
@honorablesaint The Freese part hurts (+ is obv correct), simply bc that’s the one position we *have* produced top-end talent for a couple decades
Give us 2010 Tim Howard + a mid-tier (internationally) defensive center back & you have something. But US has *never* produced the latter player
@TheDocRFP It was so bad I was yelling for a foul… just positive an international pro couldn’t have miss-hit or seized up *that* badly. His foot HAD to have been clipped
Even now, many replays later, I’m still not exactly sure what he was doing/thinking
@four4thefire@varadmehta Agree w virtually all of this. There’s enough on this team, at the right ages, to have *some* hope… BUT:
- they are atrocious controlling ball in back line (incl GK)… and not a ton better clearing crosses
- still not sure if we have a striker
- Pulisic didn’t want to be there
@varadmehta@TheDocRFP@vbspurs Rash, emotional
“Mentality” doesn’t make three players look at each other when a ball drops to the grass inside the area. Nor does it cause a keeper to brain fart on a simple clearance (and have a sweeper fail to deflect a harmless knee-level shot)
That’s the players shrinking
@nkh63Miguel@varadmehta We have enough ppl and money to be better than this. We have 30x the population of Belgium, even if other sports skim the top 90%…
End of the day it’s a high variance sport, and two *massive* fuckups by the back line / keeper will almost always kill you in knockout rounds
@varadmehta If you want names, it’s Reem, Friese, Pulisic, prob in that order.
First two speak for themselves, and Pulisic absolutely shriveled when the spotlight was on. Even before the injury he wanted no part in taking the game into his hands, was laying it off every chance he got
@varadmehta Absolutely not Poch
Three goals tonight were absolute beer league amateur hour shit from the back line (which has been low key garbage all tourney)… beyond that, it was the same old US - create a few chances and have no one with the touch and the flare to finish
