Initial Thoughts on #FSD 12.5.4.1 In and Around Toronto
Quirks: this x.x.x.1 release (updating from 12.5.4) took a looooong time to start the update after reaching 100% on the download. It maybe took over a day or two of waiting around at 100%.
Pros:
- Super comfortable ride. Confidence-inspiring maneuvers. Feels a lot more human-like than the FSD 11.x.x versions.
- Confident movements at the roundabouts.
Reliably slows down at the neighbourhood speed bumps; whether in day or night.
- Pleasantly surprised to see it swerve a bit to the left when it saw a squirrel tentatively try to cross the road; meaning, it’s probably able to detect small-ish obstacles on the road.
- Tried Actually Smart Summon in a not too busy Walmart peaking lot and it worked perfectly pulling up to me carrying groceries at the store exit. Felt really magical.
- Attention monitoring system works fairly well with or without sunglasses. Psychologically speaking, it feels that much more robotaxi-like when you aren’t nagged to touch the steering wheel.
- Able to activate and pull out from the driveway on FSD on this version. Did not work on 12.5.4.
Cons:
- It still has the weird behaviour carried over from 12.5.4 where if the car sits and waits at a red light at the intersection waiting for the light to turn green; it does not go immediately after the light turns green; whether that’s to proceed forward or left turn. I have waited for the car to proceed for upwards of ~3 seconds; after that I would inevitably get honked at. This behaviour is only observed when the car is in the lead position; does not happen when following another lead car.
Question: Does anyone know if it currently yield to emergency vehicles? I have had to take over when I see the sirens as it does not seem to be doing anything proactively.
Overall, riding in this version of #FSD, it’s easy to imagine #Tesla’s #Robotaxi vision of the future. I have frequently able to do short, driveway to destination trips hands-free.
#Tesla FSD Beta (nay, Supervised) v12.3.3 (2024.3.3) is downloading to my Model 3 Performance, hardware 3 with USS here in downtown Toronto! LFG!
Will report back with initial drive impressions. #FSD12
@SawyerMerritt@robmaurer Been a long time listener to @robmaurer and it feels like a familiar anchor at the end of the day. Love the summary of Tesla throughout the day and thoughtful and the balanced views. Rob you will be missed!
Just got #FSD Beta 10.69.3.1 here in Toronto. Took it out for a drive in North York and this is the most confident FSD drive I’ve ever had. Zero takeovers within the ~30min drive. The turns are confident and navigation around parked cars on the roads are human-like.🤯10/10! #Tesla
Just had a few great drives on Tesla FSD beta 10.69.2 in Toronto. Feels a little bit more confident in taking turns than previous builds. Curious that downtown Toronto is still geofenced off as unavailable for FSD beta. #fsd#Tesla
