@gracemodermind @burnthelilacs Anyone who is choosing to keep an ovary is almost certianly having (or can have) hysto, meaning no periods. Fat redistribution does suck and would make most trans men dysphoric but saying it's worse than menopause is a stretch, esp because it is so variable between people.

E does not reverse many of the most visible and desirable effects of T for trans men, like hair growth and a lower voice. Loss of muscle is due to low T more than high E. Fat redistribution i guess??

@burnthelilacs @kittymine56 it acts more specifically on the reproductive system (ER alpha vs beta receptors) and somewhat less on many other tissues (which is good for suppressing ovulation with fewer side effects/a lower dose, but probably bad for feminizing effects)

@burnthelilacs The thing about E is that it does make most things about a transfem transition easier, but if you are still actively trying to present masculine it isn't a huge barrier on its own. Especially for transmascs who won't have breast growth unless they were on blockers early on.

@karolkarpinski i'm endlessly annoyed whenever this goes around because I don't think anyone who hasn't done a lot of Canada/US travel has any idea how many special cases exist. I have been led inconvenienced many times by following international signs in Canadian airports.

I can't think of any (plausible) things that would stop someone who 100% prioritizes punctuality, but can think of lots that could override it for someone who is like, idk, 70% committed.

@KaskaJessica @ExtantBuffalo At many Canadian airports, American flights clear customs before leaving and therefore have a totally separate area. Anyone flying Canada -> US *should* check for unique signs because at some big airports going to "international" is wrong.

@our_decay I'm specifically fine with rice cookers being nonstick because it serves a real (hard to replicate) purpose and they don't/can't get hot enough to harm the nonstick so it won't wear out if treated well. This is not true of basically any other nonstick cookware.

@HabCorpLinguist PhDs are highly specialized, so for people who want to research something very specific it can be more important to find an advisor with compatible interests than to go to a prestigious school. Plus because it is so specific, program quality varies a lot within schools.

@uncanny_eli the price has actually increased a ton in the past few years, at least in my city its something like 50% more expensive than a few years ago for ~the same procedures.

@transgreghouse also the main reservoir is rodents, so if this does become widespread enough to get into rodent populations it will be very important to protect yourself from direct contact with them or their droppings, but that's not currently the case in the US.

@transgreghouse There isn't reason to believe it's widespread or contagious enough to limit going out, but basic precautions (masking, hand washing, avoiding contact with symptomatic people, etc) are always a good idea to do and go a long way to preventing most illnesses, including hantavirus.
