Rapper Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison After Mistakenly Pleading Guilty in R@pe Case

Louisiana rapper Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a 2022 r@pe that occurred at his Prairieville home.

During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, the victim urged the court to impose the maximum sentence, recounting how Tyler allegedly p¥nched her, ch%ked her, pulled braids from her hair, and forcibly r@ped her.

After the victim addressed the court, Tyler was given an opportunity to speak. Although he attempted to address the victim directly, he was instructed to make his remarks to the judge instead.

“If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence,” Tyler said while facing the front of the courtroom.

The rapper was ultimately sentenced to 20 years in prison for third-degree r@pe, five years short of the maximum 25-year penalty. His sentence had already been capped at 20 years under a plea agreement reached in March.

Tyler was initially arrested on a first-degree r@pe charge, which carried a possible life sentence, but later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge as part of the agreement with prosecutors.

Just days before sentencing, his attorney filed a motion seeking to withdraw the guilty plea, arguing that Tyler did not have enough time to “fully consider the consequences” of his decision. The court dismissed the motion.

Upon his release, Tyler will be required to continue complying with s+x offender registration requirements. He previously served six years in prison following a 2004 s+xual a§§ault case involving his hairstylist and was registered as a s+x offender after that conviction.
