@RishiSunak Or far less if you were on maternity leave - brining the next generation into the world - twice in the three years being used to work out the payments. Very angry at this discrimination.
If you want to know why @PregnantScrewed are taking UK Gov to court for discrimination check out this thread.
SEISS payments are lower simply for daring to run a business and have a baby... it’s not the same as taking a holiday!!!
@shereendoc @PregnantScrewed 😂 (sorry can’t help but laugh at the farce of mat leave & SEISS!)I was on mat leave in that year but also on mat leave 16/17 and profits didn’t recoup too much in 17/18 as childcare prohibited it so using those year’s tax returns really won’t help 🙄
Pregnant then Screwed have launched a legal claim for Judicial Review against the Treasury for indirectly discriminating against women due to their continued refusal to exempt periods of maternity leave from the Self-Employment Support Scheme (SEISS).
Today @PregnantScrewed officially launch legal action against the Treasury for sex discrimination because self-employed mums like me receive less govt £ support if we took maternity leave between April 2016-March 2019. We are hard-working taxpayers being penalised for our gender
If we don't fight back, this sets a frightening precedent. The Chancellor said SEISS averaging calculations were designed to level out trading profits so you didn't lose out due to a "bad year" like "maternity leave". Thanks to Joeli & the @PregnantScrewed team for taking this on
Good luck to the mighty @Joeli_Brearley + @PregnantScrewed who have started legal proceedings against the gov for indirect sexism over the SEISS calculations, excluding women who took mat leave. It's 2020 and STILL we punish working mothers, one way or another.
Campaigners @PregnantScrewed said the Government’s legal standpoint that maternity leave is the same as any other leave set a “very dangerous precedent” – as 85k women receive less support than men on same income https://t.co/a2wuTXXN4P
Ministers & officials @hmtreasury should have thought through the implications for new mothers when they were designing the #SEISS
Well done @PregnantScrewed for pursuing this. 👊

Rishi thinks having a baby is the same as going on holiday! 😂😂 🙄🙄. Sign the petition if you believe self employed mums shouldn’t get their support cut just for taking mat leave. https://t.co/e13EIdszUv
Furious that @HMRCgovuk have resorted to gaslighting those of us whose maternity leave meant we received lower level of support - just telling us it hasn’t affected it when it CATEGORICALLY has is disrespectful. I’ll be supporting @PregnantScrewed in their continuing battle. Raa!
Pregnant Then Screwed is taking legal action against the Chancellor claiming discrimination in the way the #selfemployment income protection scheme does not exempt periods of #maternityleave from eligibility criteria - https://t.co/HMDYiBRxly @PregnantScrewed
@RishiSunak surely this can’t be right from @HMRCgovuk I was on mat leave twice in the 3yrs being used to calculate SEISS how can you “confirm that these do not affect the amount of your grant”?! I’m getting approx 60% less than I would have if no mat leave!@PregnantScrewed
