DeSantis has defunded all Florida diversity programs and continues on his quest to erase Black history.

Black people were kidnapped, enslaved, brutalized, looked at as property, and given the names of slavers.

Let me repeat that. Given the names of slavers.

Williams, Jefferson, Johnson, and Wahington are some of the names of slavers carried to this day. Those sure aren't African names.

How is having your dignity, your name, and your family stripped away a benefit?

@Mgall10Gall @LqLana I agree with you, but I would ask you to change one thing, they were enslaved people, not slaves. Slavery is a condition, not an identity. Also, amend the 13th, as long as there is an exception clause, slavery still exists. (Involuntary servitude is slavery).

Today in 1946 WWII veteran Maceo Snipes was shot in his back by the KKK the day after he became the first Black person to cast a vote in Taylor County, Georgia.

After he was shot, Mr. Snipes walked three miles to the hospital with his mother. For six hours doctors left him waiting and bleeding. By the time he was seen, he needed a blood transfusion. The doctors said the hospital had no “black blood.” Snipes died two days later.

This is why I will vote in every election. The day I stop voting is the day I stop breathing. #FreshVotesBlue #BlackHistoryWithLana

The right to a jury of one's peers is foundational to America.

Yet, NJ prohibits approximately 219,000 to 269,000 of its Black population from jury service because of a criminal conviction – a staggering 23-29%.

NJ's Black defendants are not judged by a jury of their peers.

It’s obvious that corporate interests are prioritized. But it should not be this difficult to assess the impact on NJ’s marginalized communities.
