@cjoutras I believe this could be a challenge for a company like Facebook but, I think most would agree that there is no benefit to having fake news hang around on these platforms! #UWJ201
@mp1771 I would say low! I have been lucky to have made lots of new connections but, these have been in many different ways and forms. I also look at connections made back home and they don’t necessarily intermingle with new connections! #UWJ201
@AlanPurves I definitely agree to this, we are heading down a interesting path due to the emergence of social media! Often times it can truly be a struggle to seek positive media stories on these platforms. #uwj201
@mhaaschUW I believe it does! It can be seen when the common individual has something go viral and how far the reach can span because of it! This is definitely something many years ago no one could’ve predicted occurring! #UWJ201
@taraodonnellm It definitely would be helpful as a company if FB did but, as consumers we have the duty to verify information and not trust all things we see on the internet! #UWJ201
@zestywesty38@sooyunkim_ I believe that social media is a great tool but it definitely doesn’t represent the entire population and leaves out specific group’s opinions. Journalists need to examine multiple avenues not just social media! #UWJ201
@jamij22 As stated by others, yes. Although it is unfortunate, rules and regulations are essential and punishments are necessary for violations. Punishments teach hard lessons and set examples for other journalists to follow. #uwj201
Lots of interesting points brought up today in the SPJ Code of Ethics Lecture! Ties in well with the current state of media our country is living in! #UWJ201
Reading this weeks article about Act 10 really made me remember 2011 and watching the nightly news to see thousands of teachers and public sector employees protesting here in Madison. Was cool to hear other students take on it during discussion this week #UWJ201
@Channin11206416 I believe that social media can be used for many other things besides political postings. Although some people I believe are effective at using it for politics, I find myself shying away from that. I value face to face and in-person political conversations! #UWJ201
@marikamaddie This is a really interesting question to pose! Like others have said, I also believe there is always some form a trail left behind, the “digital footprint” #UWJ201
Really interesting when I think about conversations I have with my friends, very like minded people, and hearing an idea that is framed against our beliefs and how easy it is to shoot it down together! #UWJ201
@HeissGloria This is a great point! I think the idea of being an informed citizen is crucial and our 21st century society has tons of access to this information and individuals need to take this process into one’s own hands! #UWJ201
@emileeeeeeeek @MollySegUWJ201@davalos Great point, I agree that ones beliefs simply won’t change overnight because of a new channel/source. It is important still in my opinion to search around for news and use different sources! #UWJ201
@sofiairigoyennn This is a great question and an interesting take! I think we can be appreciative of social media in the sense it provides another way to access this information and be involved with it! #UWJ201
Interesting walk back from classes today. Nearly every student I saw on the streets was somehow connected to a device. How much more could society be connected to devices 15-20 years down the road? Was this “revolution” anticipated when this technology was implemented? #uwj201
