Met some of the beer league teammates at the Wild Wing at the rink here in Toronto.
World Series on. Monday Night Football on. Bar can’t get Leafs-Flames.
Six pad arena that has easier access to out-of-market pro football and pro baseball than the local pro hockey team. Tables keep asking for it, bartenders keep scrolling through their huge cable package. No dice. The NHL should view this as a big problem for the sport.
If capitalism is so great, why do corporations need tax breaks, subsidies, exemptions, grants, bailouts, legal protections, and trade barriers to survive? And when ordinary people ask for help, why is it suddenly called socialism?
here’s the exchange where @sostalksmoney makes what is charitably called a joke:
“I’m sure your mom really died of a headache — your mom might have died from a headache”
@AdamFriedland if u read this i’ll take it down for $100,000
I dont respect this take at all, I find it privileged and out of touch. as diaspora, its hypocritical to spend a lifetime begging our white counterparts to be aware of their privilege & see us as human and turn around and deny the same consideration and humanity to people in India who are begging us to stand with them. especially when wealthy upper caste NRIs are a big big reason BJP is still in power and so well funded. I will do everything I can to fight for an India that is 100% democratic, safe for all minority communities, and free of gender violence.
What's more, the War of 1812 acted as something of a catalyst for Canadian norms, attitudes, and aesthetics. For example, it was only as a result of the war that the neo-Gothic architecture, which is in many ways *the* quintessential Canadian architectural style, was first employed by designers. These new farmhouses, factories, and civic buildings, many of which still dot the Southern Ontario landscape to this day, were built to replace those structures lost during the American raids. With a new sense of severity and romantic nationalism, it reflected a people who had been through devastation and survived, at a time when the injustices brought upon the Loyalists was still fresh in the cultural memory. It is a style of dark transcendence forged in blood-red brick and arches as sharp as a bayonet.
I swear any conversation i overhear from the managers at my company sounds EXACTLY like this and every single time i hear them i think about this video
The most revealing image in American politics right now may be that White House state dinner. Political power, billionaire wealth, Fox News personalities and CCP officials all drinking and dining together and yucking it up while millions of Americans absorb the consequences of decisions made by people in that room.
They manufacture division for everyone else. At the top, the club looks remarkably small. They’re all having a ball.
