Last week I got to take off my 'cosmologist' cap and put on the 'comedian' one at MICF 2024 as part of @ScienceTalksAU Future Science Talks: Comedy Edition!
I had a great time, learned heaps and got to meet some awesome Aussie scientists!
What is the best way to prepare for our upcoming #ScienceComedy shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival? Watch a comedy show with other scientists!
We decided to leave the lab and head to Brunswick to watch some up-and-coming comedians perform. Such a fun night!
I'd add more but I have a flight to catch, so check out the paper for the maths (it's interesting, I promise) and for more in-depth discussion of our results. Hopefully this work can help to usher in more considered treatment of host galaxy redshifts!
🚨 Paper day! The most anticipated paper of the week is finally on the arXiv. 🙃
We find a bias in the modelled local velocity field, reconstructed using linear theory, and investigate the potential impact of this bias on cosmological measurements (1/7)

Thankfully, we can model for this bias and by doing so introduce terms to correct it. Our corrected model velocity can be used to recover unbiased estimates of the growth rate of structure from simple lognormal mocks, and reduces the error in H0 measurements using standard sirens
PhD students make up about 60 per cent of Australia’s research workforce, but are paid just $29,863 a year. The stipend has increased just 21 per cent in the past decade, compared to the minimum wage which increased 34 per cent. https://t.co/RUEENvowqw
End of a big week for me!
Not only did I start my new position at Swinburne, but I also had (and passed!) my viva. Made sure to celebrate sufficiently this weekend, now it's time to crack on with work
Dear awesome cosmo people,
the majority of the conference talks are now made available in our YouTube channel!
Enjoy! 🎥👀😊
