The case is not about church discipline but whether the Board followed the church’s own constitution when it designated members as “inactive” (no attendance for 8 consecutive weeks without “reasonable excuse”) for voting purposes in an elder election.

The dissenters allege the Board arbitrarily purged dissenting voters to rig the 2021 election. The court is enforcing the church’s secular, contractual membership rules, not litigating spiritual decisions.

It is applying an existing Virginia distinction (Reid v. Gholson). This interpretation is way overstated.
