Still processing the numbers from the winter storm, but what a monster. Seeing the warzone in Oxford, MS, to the power outages in Nashville, to the thunder ice in the Midlands, this storm was unique. And I’ll say it, we got incredibly lucky in SC with that early flip to sleet, it was the difference between a fun ice day and a disaster here. A huge shoutout to the local mets too. The transition from wishing for snow to warning for ice once the CAD locked in was professional and spot on. It’s humbling to see how much a tenth of an inch of precip matters. 18 people elsewhere weren’t so lucky. An update on the refreeze will come later today, but for those without power in SC and across the board, stay warm! #scwx #winterstorm #clemson

This is why you don’t look at totals on day 5/6.

The number of times here in Clemson I’ve heard someone say 'they’re calling for 7 inches of snow' after checking a phone app is honestly cringeworthy. It’s even worse that licensed meteorologists were fueling the fire by covering preemptive totals.

Sure there’s still plenty of time for a shift back south that would bring impacts back our way, sure… but can we please hold our horses? Especially in the volatile south, and ESPECIALLY after last weekend?

Models are made up of trends, so let’s look at the trends and not the totals until we see certainty. I think meteorologists have learned a lot from the past two weekends, with some completely taking the bait. And I’m with y’all, the trends were there. Frustrating I know, but we have to understand and respect this type of change before jumping to conclusions. #scwx #winterstorm @SCweather_wx
