Troops of Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA have continued offensive operations against criminal elements across the South East, recording significant successes through intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies. The operations led to the arrest of several suspects involved in criminal activities and the recovery of arms, ammunition and other incriminating items, further strengthening efforts to enhance security in the region.
In Cross River State, troops of 245 Battalion, in conjunction with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), conducted a raid at Balep Community along the IkomโOgoja Road. During the operation, three suspects were arrested, while troops recovered 2 Dane guns, one locally made pistol, 6 cartridges, military web equipment, a woodland camouflage jacket, a strike-face metal plate, an axe and substances suspected to be cannabis, among other items. Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation, intelligence from the 82 Military Intelligence Brigade led to the arrest of Assistant Superintendent II Obaji Sampson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) by troops of 82 Division Provost Group and Sector 2 Operation UDO KA. Further investigation led to the arrest of Superintendent Tasie Victor Nnamdi, Unit Armourer of the NSCDC Enugu State Command, identified as the principal supplier, and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Ekwueme Onyebuchi Clement, identified as a major recipient. The arrests exposed a suspected illegal arms supply network.
Following additional intelligence, troops of 82 Division Garrison and Sector 1 Operation UDO KA, in conjunction with the 82 Division Provost Group, raided a residence at Achara Road, Trans-Ekulu, Golf Estate, Enugu State, where a suspected IPOB/ESN member and gun runner, Friday Nnanna, was arrested. Troops recovered 247 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 12 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, 29 live cartridges, 4 pump-action guns, one Beretta pistol, 11 different vehicle registration plates, improvised explosive device-making materials, assorted swords, one smoke tear gas canister, military accoutrements, other sundry items and four vehicles. The suspect and recovered items are in military custody for further investigation.
The Nigerian Army remains committed to sustaining intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and their support networks. Troops will continue to work with other security agencies to deny criminals freedom of action, protect lives and property, and support ongoing efforts to enhance peace, security and stability across the country.
NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS IN NIPSS NEUTRALISES ASSAILANT, RECOVER STOLEN SERVICE RIFLE
Troops of Sector 6, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), in the early hours of Thursday, 2 July 2026, thwarted an attack by suspected armed criminal elements on guard location at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The assailants attempted to breach the Instituteโs perimeter under cover of darkness at about 12:10 a.m. They were swiftly engaged by vigilant troops in a decisive exchange of fire, resulting in the neutralisation of one of the attackers while the others fled with gun shots wounds towards the surrounding high ground. No casualties were sustained by the troops.
Following the encounter, troops recovered an AK-pattern rifle bearing Registration Number CO-3175 from the neutralised assailant. The rifle was loaded with sixteen rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Preliminary checks confirmed that the weapon belonged to a Nigerian Army soldier who was killed in action during an earlier encounter with unidentified militia elements at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, on 11 April 2026. The recovered rifle is now in military custody as part of ongoing investigations into the incident and possible links to previous attacks in the Kuru-Vom axis. The remains of the neutralised assailant have been evacuated to the mortuary through the appropriate authorities.
Troops have since intensified area domination patrols, clearance operations and active pursuit activities around NIPSS Kuru and adjoining communities. These measures are aimed at denying criminal elements any freedom of action and ensuring the continued safety of residents, staff and critical national assets. The situation remains firmly under control and normal activities within the Institute and the surrounding area continue without interruption.
The Nigerian Army, through Operation ENDURING PEACE, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, securing strategic national institutions and restoring lasting peace across Plateau State. Members of the public are encouraged to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to security agencies. Sustained public cooperation remains vital to the collective effort to enhance national security.
