@alerizzo_ @HirokiSayama All true and good points. But underlying assumption is academia employment. Seems feasible to establish independent research groups capable of attracting/winning donations, grants, investment, etc. (Even for non-industry/applied research.) Am I delusional in that thinking?

The difference in Twitter drama perception between media and tech people I talk to is stunning. Media: “illegal”, “death spiral”, “bankruptcy”, “incompetent”. Tech: “he bought it, he can do what he wants”, “he is cleaning ship”, “twitter will be great”, “Elon is figuring it out”.

Maybe it's just semantics, but I don't think you can draw a clear distinction between "understanding" and "intelligence". If you understand a task or a thing, then you possess intelligence with regard to that particular bit of the universe. It's the same concept.

@pwang Should the word ‘Intuitions’ be ‘Institutions’? I see intuition as an ability to analyze a novel scenario by generalizing from existing knowledge, i.e. adaptation. But institutional credentials do tend to reflect info absorption vs creative, generative abilities.
