Truth is way more often then not our poor performance is OUR fault. Not the umpires. Not the field conditions. Not the awful pitching mound. Not the holes in the batters box. Not the coaches decisions. Not our teammates mistakes.

If we need everything to be perfect to perform well, the game, actually life, is going to be hard. We have to be able to adjust. We have to be able to keep our mind clear when we can’t find the strike zone, made an error or missed our pitch. We have to be mentally tough enough to handle being in an uncomfortable situation. We have to be honest enough to know and admit that just as many missed calls the umpire makes that go against us, many actually help us.

When we have an attitude of excuses and blaming versus acknowledging personal weaknesses and mistakes, we will struggle with consistency and growth.

Adults, we are a huge part of this with our players and own children. Pay closer attention to the conversations we allow and encourage. If we are part of this weakness in our athletes, WE need to get better too.
