I think skepticism is warranted here regarding the claim this could be CRISPR-like in significance, even if the chance is non-zero, but we shouldn’t be pessimistic about the approach which eliminated enormous overhead. Could circulating data via a 1 TB uplink (assuming RTT is reasonable) act as a storage medium for ephemeral storage like RAM? Basically, you blast data to a remote whose only job is to beam is back to you. If your machine doesn’t need the data anymore, don’t beam it back, otherwise do so. I’m, perhaps naïvely, assuming the redundancy overhead isn’t significant if the uplink throughput is fast enough. There’s plenty of cloud providers that claim “free unlimited ingress/egress” and free is a lot cheaper than storage mediums in the RAMpocalypse.
