📢 Nieuport Aviation’s 2024 Impact Report has arrived! The release of this year’s edition is especially meaningful as we celebrate our 10th anniversary as the terminal partner at @bbishopairport.

This year’s report highlights the contributions we’ve made in collaboration with @PortsToronto and many other partners. Highlights from the 2024 report include:

- Support of 32 community organizations and initiatives
- 205 metric tonnes of waste diverted from landfill
- 35 live performances by local musicians as part of the Music on the Fly program
- Six large-scale exhibits by local artists open to visitors and the public.

For this edition of #TOTakesFlight, we caught up with Jennifer Corriero, the Executive Director of TakingITGlobal, as she passed through @bbishopairport on her way back from Montreal.  

We first connected with Jennifer through our support of Connected North, an initiative of TakingITGlobal that delivers live virtual experiences to K-12 students in remote Indigenous communities.

“We just reached our 200th school,” she says. “From Elders to scientists, artists to entrepreneurs, these sessions are designed to inspire students and show them what’s possible.”.

As a regular traveler through YTZ, Jennifer says she values the convenience and calm of flying from the heart of downtown: “I can walk my son to school and then walk to the airport — it’s a time-saver and honestly, it’s beautiful. I always try to get a window seat just to take in the skyline.”

Jennifer was travelling to Montreal because her organization was named one of the Top 10 Healthiest Workplaces in the country for companies under 250 employees – a recognition she said came as a complete surprise.

True to our long-standing compliance roots, @Ripple is applying for a national bank charter from the OCC. If approved, we would have both state (via NYDFS) and federal oversight, a new (and unique!) benchmark for trust in the stablecoin market.

Earlier in the week via @StandardCustody, we also applied for a Fed Master account -- while Congress is working towards clear rules and regulations, and banks (in a far cry from the years of Operation Chokepoint 2.0) are leaning in, this access would allow us to hold $RLUSD reserves directly with the Fed and provide an additional layer of security to future proof trust in RLUSD.

Ripple always has and will continue to build trusted, battle-tested and secure infrastructure. In a $250B+ market, RLUSD stands out for putting regulation first, setting the standard that institutions expect.

Niko and David took different paths to arrive at @bbishopairport, but today they’re both key players on Nieuport Aviation’s Operations team as Terminal Operations Specialists. For Niko, the spark was ignited early—his grandfather was a pilot, and his family shared stories of his flights that inspired Niko to pursue aviation. Niko went all in, getting his multi-engine commercial pilot certification and even completing a Master’s in Aviation Management.

David, on the other hand, discovered aviation by chance. Starting out as a de-icing technician, he spent five seasons on the tarmac, eventually stepping up as a supervisor. Organizing complex de-icing operations taught him the power of teamwork and precision under pressure, and he developed a deep appreciation for aviation’s pace and unpredictability.

Both Niko and David emphasize that terminal operations isn’t just about logistics; it’s about the people and the experience. “You have to balance efficiency with the priority of customer service, and being approachable, friendly, and helpful is essential—even on the tough days,” says Niko. David echoes that sentiment, adding, “In this role, you’re constantly learning and growing with your team.”

As we celebrate the 85th anniversary of @BBishopAirport and the 100th anniversary of the @RCAF_ARC, we’re partnering with the @RCAF_Foundation to honour women in aviation all year. We’ve just unveiled our latest honouree on our Women in Aviation Wall of Fame: Willa Walker.

Wilhelmina “Willa” Walker was one of the first to enlist in the newly formed Canadian Women’s Auxiliary Air Force in 1941, which became the RCAF Women’s Division in 1942. Quickly rising through the ranks, she was made commanding officer of the Women’s Division in Canada in February 1943.

Willa was the first woman to hold the rank of Wing Officer, and her pioneering work opened the door for more women in Canadian military aviation.
