The idea of “running it back” couldn’t be less relevant when you’re talking about a team that set an NBA record last season for most different starting lineups used.
I understand the frustration with the Sixers and everything and Joel is certainly not blameless in all of this but it is pretty wild to me at what the local reaction has been to arguably the most talented Sixer ever's body completely falling apart in the middle of his prime.
Invite 27 guys. Two captains stand at center court and pick teams of 12 (including captains) in front of a live crowd. Three guys each year get left out— they get their bonuses, history remembers them as All-Stars, but they don’t play.
Creates rivalries & much needed bad-blood
Not sure NBA All Star Weekend could have gone worse. But it’s been an issue since the mid-2000s and the NBA is in deep denial about it. They take a huge L every February. It’s like they rebuilt the weekend specifically so everyone could complain about it. I don’t get it.
@CompanyDotBiz @BIGPLAY_Dave@ChrisTrapasso I think everyone understands game 5 was a crucial opportunity to close the series out at home before giving Cleveland momentum & Draymond was the team’s defensive identity.
As I said regarding the call: the inconsistency is the worst part.
All im gonna say is this would never happen at Lincoln Financial Field..
Josh Harris/Daryl Morey are creating an environment where one of the most passionate sports cities in the USA won’t even show up for a hometown playoff game.
@_JimmyMcCormick Crazy that it feels like we’ll never see those numbers again with the way the game is played. Have to also admit- stands to reason Kareem’s total blocks could be higher than Hakeem’s had they been recorded before 73-74.
Feel like it’s seen as contrarian, but Olajuwon - to me- is the best big man of all-time. Played in an era littered with HOF bigs & dominated at both ends of the floor.
Only player top 10 in both blk/stl (1st in blocks.) Some of the best post footwork ever, nice shooting touch.
@_JimmyMcCormick If there’s anyone that I really waffle between, it’s Kareem. Watched an early 70s Bucks game recently and came away thinking that’s a dominant player in any era.
Ability to use his frame so well and finish with great touch made him almost immortal.
@_JimmyMcCormick You can go pretty deep on AI’s legacy. A total anomaly on the court, one of the most influential figures in the history of basketball culture, & an enormous (if not polarizing) figure in this city.
@_JimmyMcCormick Wilt was a man amongst boys, but going back & watching him… got some holes.
Kareem I give a lot of credit, a force on both ends just like Wilt, but a little smoother w/nice shooting touch & the most unstoppable move in NBA history. Best player in the NBA for a full decade
@PineyPointG I’ve heard some really great things about Russell’s defensive impact & unrivaled basketball IQ— but Hakeem was the total package.
Russell couldn’t really carry his team as a scorer (never led his team in scoring) while Olajuwon led the Rockets 12 straight seasons.
The six greatest NBA players ever in alphabetical order
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Larry Bird
LeBron James
Magic Johnson
Michael Jordan
Bill Russell
We can argue about the order, but we can’t argue about any current guy displacing any of those six — at least not yet. Sorry.
@vancemeek I can’t think of a better era for big men and he was the best of ‘em. Shaq absolutely wound up reaching those heights, but the Dream just had no holes in his game.
