Introducing the Teacher's Guide for Courage Can Save US.
I wrote this guide with the hope that it prompts students and young adults to consider a path of service, to seek courage in their own lives, and to recognize more of it.
Check it out if you're a teacher, or share it with a teacher you love. I'll be sending advance copies to the first 10 teachers who reach out. Thanks for your service as a teacher!

Abhay means courage in Hindi. My college buddy, Dr. Raj Panjabi (@rajpanjabi), named his son Abhay to inspire him to live with courage.
Raj is the founder of @lastmilehealth. He's the first to share a "Courage Moment" on the Courage Can Save US website.
I created a platform to share stories of people whose courage shaped your life. If someone comes to mind, I'd love to know about them. Please share online (link below) or send me a message.

Great to join over two dozen bipartisan vets in Congress yesterday for the 8th annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall cleaning. It was an honor to have the three Vietnam veterans still serving on Capitol Hill join us yesterday.
I'm still thinking about the moving remarks, including the closing reflection by @RepThompson, who served as an Army infantry sergeant in Vietnam. He quotes President Kennedy:
"Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind."
"Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind."
Yesterday, With Honor Action and two dozen bipartisan veteran Members of @BipartisanVets cleaned the Vietnam Veterans Memorial together, putting politics aside to honor and remember the 58,318 names of the men and women who gave their last full measure of devotion to our country.
Watch memorable moments from Co-Chairs @RepDonDavis and @RepEllzey, as well as remarks from the last three Vietnam veterans in Congress @RepJimBaird, @RepThompson, and @RepJackBergman.
Just published the book's extended bibliography online.
This was a massive project (144 pages with hyperlinks), and I appreciate the team effort behind it.
The references include some of my favorite writers, from Marcus Aurelius to our late @WithHonorAction co-founder David Gergen, as well as superb contemporary journalists, including @michaelkruse, @eosnos, and @adamwren.

Great to catch up with @GovWesMoore and give the first finished copy of "Courage Can Save US" to one of the 10 who's profiled in the book. Wes' line, “Service will save us,” was the inspiration for my book’s title.
Afterward, my wife Tracy and our pup Cisco chatted with Wes about his remarkable commencement address this past weekend to the final class of cadets at Valley Forge Military Academy. It’s a remarkable testament to service, and you can view it here: https://t.co/xViyIItB6O
Gerrymandering is fueling political polarization — and the Co-Chairs of the @ProbSolveCaucus are joining together across party lines to do something about it.
@RepBrianFitz and @RepTomSuozzi sat down with @NPR to discuss why partisan redistricting is one of the biggest threats facing our country, and what Congress can do to fix it.

I met Mykhailo, a Ukrainian refugee who now interns in Rep. Don Bacon’s office. We were together shortly before King Charles’s joint address to Congress, which I attended as Rep. Bacon’s guest. The chamber gave a standing ovation when the King spoke of supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom.
Today, Reps. Bacon and Brian Fitzpatrick, who are both profiled in my forthcoming book "Courage Can Save US," joined a discharge petition to force a vote on aid to Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.
Normally, House leaders decide what gets a floor vote. A discharge petition bypasses them. Get 218 signatures, a simple majority, and the bill must come to the floor. The House went nearly a decade without a successful one. This will be the eighth in the last three years.
The bill still has to clear the Senate and could face a presidential veto.

It was an honor to give the third signed advance copy of "Courage Can Save US" to Mrs. Joy Moore, a single mother whose strength and sacrifice helped shape her son, Governor Wes Moore, and his two siblings. Joy's and Wes's stories form a meaningful chapter in my book.
My mother and I met with Joy in Baltimore, just before Mother’s Day and ahead of Wes’s final commencement address at Valley Forge Military Academy. Valley Forge closes its historic doors this year after generations of shaping young men and women who went on to serve our country. Among them is Ty Hill, whose courage is also featured in the book.
You can view Wes’s full remarks in the link below. They are extraordinary.
“When it’s time for you to leave this school, leave your job, leave this earth, make sure it mattered that you were ever here. … When our last trumpets play, be thou not dismayed. We pray as once he prayed. Valley Forge for thee.” @GovWesMoore@iamwesmoore

It’s hard for me to believe this moment is finally here.
I’m grateful to share that my new book, Courage Can Save US, will launch on June 9 from @BloomsburyPub in the U.S., with a U.K. release in the fall.
If we haven’t met: I’m a Marine veteran who served in Iraq, and I now lead @WithHonorAction, a cross-partisan nonprofit working to strengthen principled leadership in elected office. This book grew out of that work, but it started earlier, with my father’s story and the writers who shaped how I think about service and war.
One of those writers, @PhilipCaputo, author of A Rumor of War, passed away today. Phil and my father served together as Marine infantry officers in Vietnam. Dad later wrote Concerning Caputo: Africa and Acts of Faith as Art, Science, and Much More, reflecting on what Phil’s work revealed about the moral weight of leadership in combat. In some ways, my book is part of the same conversation about what service asks of people, and what it costs.
Courage Can Save US profiles ten elected leaders, five Democrats and five Republicans. Nine are post-9/11 veterans; one is a former FBI agent. Each faced moments where serving the common good carried risk. Not every decision worked. Not every outcome was clean. Some came at a severe price.
This isn’t only a book about politics. It’s about service. We’re living through a time of profound strain and division. I wrote this book because I believe that courage can save us—both as a nation and as individuals—if we choose it.
Please preorder a copy at this link, and follow our events there. All author proceeds will go to With Honor: https://t.co/r3bgE0jWxq
Rest in peace Phil Caputo, who served with my father in Vietnam, eulogized him at his funeral, blurbed my first book, and was a good family friend. I had not recalled until reading his obit the inspiration of his service—similar to Dad’s—was“ask not….” https://t.co/rcH2zaZmNC
100 days until #America250 🇺🇸
As a Founding Sponsor, With Honor Action is proud to support @America250 in bringing Americans together—through service, civic engagement, and a renewed commitment to put country over politics.
Today, less than 2% of Americans serve in any capacity, whether in the military or through civilian service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps. With Honor Action and America250 share a commitment to making this year the largest year of service in American history, so that it remains a cornerstone of the American experience for the next #250.

“We can get something meaningful done, and actually leave a legacy knowing that we’ve made things better.”
Check out highlights from our reception celebrating the @BipartisanVets 7th anniversary, bringing together leaders from both parties committed to service. 🇺🇸
Among the 881 awardees, Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee, SC (Posthumous), was today conferred the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (E.B.S.) by President William Ruto in recognition of his distinguished and outstanding service to the nation.
