@DanKeshet Giveaways included: built 2015 or later, 5 bedrooms somehow in a 2000 sqft layout, awkwardly sized pools that barely fit in the yard and felt like they were just there to check an amenities box...
@DanKeshet When I was in the market for a house in 2021, there were a bunch of listings I saw that very clearly had been purpose-built for AirBnB and may have been for sale because the owners were underwater after bookings fell during the pandemic
Huge minimum lot size reduction in Austin! Opening the doors for more affordable, dense, walkable neighborhoods all over town.
Proud of all the hard work from Austin City Council members and staff, and advocacy from AURA and other orgs!
Austin leading the nation in housing reform!
- ๐๏ธ 5,750 -> 1,800 Min Lot Size
- Lessen height buffer around SFH from 540-> 75 ft

Texas' new all-time winter peak, is 76,340 megawatts. And at the peak, wind power produced ~23 gigawatts, or 30% of peak demand. Not coincidentally, despite the recorded breaking demand, power prices were low. Thank one of the 30,000 Texans working in the wind industry! #txlege
Austin City Council votes to legalize 3 homes per lot citywide! ๐๐๐
Thank you to @LesliePoolATX for all your leadership and work on legalizing housing, and many thanks to all the supporters! We did it y'all! ๐
Great thread from @chitovela3 about what we can learn in Austin from Houston's data following a policy change allowing smaller lots a couple of decades ago!
Houston has shown Austin that allowing homes on smaller lots helps increase affordability without gentrification and displacement! A recent study by @UTAustin and @pewtrusts confirms this (h/t @JackCraver). A๐งตon the results:
Wavelength intern Mae Zhang launched a major improvement to our AI assistant today: integration with web search so that it can converse knowledgeably about current events!

I proposed a SXSW panel on social applications of AI and LLMs. We'll talk about how we make these models accessible at both Wavelength and @logictry, and potentially a few other companies whose representatives might join the panel. Please give it a vote! https://t.co/hxliV09jZE
Council votes 9-2 (A. Alter, Kelly) to kick off significant reductions to Austin's minimum single-family lot size, allow more units per lot.
A final ordinance will be coming back for approval in the future
Excited to co-sponsor a @LesliePoolATX item that brings more affordable options for folks trying to buy a home in Austin. Our median home price is now $609,500, up from $371,250 just 5 years ago. We must create lower priced home options for our residents.

@the_transit_guy Ever since I visited Zion, Iโve wondered why Yosemite doesnโt adopt the same system. Biggest barrier is sufficient parking near the park entrances, which are in less flat areas than the valley. But gaining back that open space in the valley could be worth figuring that out?
@the_transit_guy Zion does this well within the park: mandatory shuttle system, no private vehicles in the main valley section of the park. The shuttles are frequent and reliable, donโt get stuck in traffic, and donโt interrupt the natural beauty of their surroundings like gridlock does.
On the rare occasion that Dan Patrick picks the right side of an issue, his stubborn/uncompromising rule in the Senate becomes an asset. Raising the homestead exemption is the fastest, most progressive, most durable, and least market-distorting way to go about property tax relief
.@DanPatrick, in a statement on the second special session, reiterates the Senateโs insistence on increasing the homestead exemption and reiterates his view that eliminating school prop taxes is unrealistic #txlege
@kelseyhuse30 Anecdotally, a few friends have recently found better rates for ~equal or better places by shopping around and moving. Rents are starting to go down, and itโs always the landlords filling vacancies that accept market realities before those renewing existing tenants.
