Most gender non-conforming young people grow up to be gay or lesbian. So why are we treating them as though something is wrong with them? This is specifically an LGB issue and LGB Alliance has been saying so for years.

The research is consistent and has been for decades: the majority of children who present as gender non-conforming – who don’t fit neatly into social expectations of how boys and girls should be – grow up to be same-sex attracted adults. Happy. Well-adjusted. Gay.

That matters because the clinical response to these children has shifted dramatically. What was once watchful waiting, letting children develop naturally, has in many settings become active affirmation of a trans identity. The long-term consequences of that shift are not yet fully understood.

LGB Alliance does not oppose support for young people who are struggling. We oppose a system that tells a teenage lesbian she might be a boy and that medical intervention is the answer before anyone has asked whether she might simply be gay.

There is a word for the historical practice of telling gay and lesbian young people their identity needs to be corrected and that they need clinical intervention. We fought hard to stop it. We will not accept a new version of it.

Lesbians (and gays) have been persecuted for hundreds if not thousands of years because we are exclusively same sex attracted. In many countries we are still criminalized, tortured, raped and murdered bc of it.

But the LGBT- "community", that should have our back, and the Pride-movement that literally was started by and for us, now tell us that exclusive same sex attraction doesn't exist, and if you insist that it does, you're a transphobic bigot.

I thought we had progressed beyond the idea that homosexuality is a sin in the west. I thought it was decided that there's nothing wrong or shameful in being gay/lesbian, and loving only the same sex is completely okay.

If you think lesbians can be into males (regardless of how they identify inside their head), ask yourself this;

Why have society tried, and failed, to force homosexuals into opposite-sex relationships? Why was conversion therapy ever even a thing? Why are gays murdered in other countries for being gay?

If lesbians and gays can be opposite-sex attracted, why don't they find an opposite-sex partner, to escape the persecution that society has commited against us, and still commits against us outside of the west?

As a lesbian, I know the answer; homosexuals are NOT opposite-sex attracted, and that's exactly why we are persecuted and an oppressed minority.

It's literally impossible for us to be sexually attracted to the opposite sex, and thousands, if not millions, of gays and lesbians have been abused, criminalized and murdered bc of it.

So when you get on twitter and spout lies like "lesbians can like dick" and "gay men can like pussy", you are spitting every gay and lesbian person who has suffered persecution, right in the face.

You can colonize our language, steal and redefine our words, shame us into silence and label us terfs. Homosexual men and women, ACTUAL gays and lesbians, will continue to exist. But fuck you for setting us back decades in the fight for gay/lesbian acceptance.

In 1974 Turkey invaded Cyprus and took possession of 37% of the country, gradually displacing 200,000 Greek Cypriots. There has since been an influx of Turkish settlers from the mainland, with as many as 500,000 Turks displacing the natives.

Between 2016 and 2023, nearly 1 in 100 insured children ages 8 to 17 received a gender dysphoria diagnosis.

Captain Cook loaded 7,860 pounds of sauerkraut onto the HMS Endeavour in 1768. His crew refused to eat it, so he served it exclusively to the officers and made sure they ate it visibly in front of the crew every single day until the sailors decided they wanted some too. Not one man died of scurvy on the entire three-year voyage.

Cook circumnavigated the world on his first voyage without losing a single man to scurvy and the Royal Society of London awarded him the Copley Medal on his return, one of the most prestigious scientific honours in Britain, specifically for his methods of preserving the health of his crew. The achievement was genuinely extraordinary. Scurvy had been killing sailors on long voyages for centuries, with some estimates suggesting it killed more sailors than enemy action, storms and all other causes of death combined. Cook solved it with fermented cabbage and a very specific understanding of human psychology.

A typical daily menu aboard the Endeavour consisted of breakfast with boiled wheat and sugar, a midday dinner of salted beef stew and vegetables, and an evening meal of soup with ship's biscuits so hard they had to be broken up with a marlin spike. The ship carried approximately 5,500 litres of beer, 7,300 litres of spirits, 16 tonnes of bread, 2 tonnes of salted beef and over 3 tonnes of sauerkraut.

The sailors ate approximately 5,000 calories a day to sustain the physical demands of running an 18th century sailing ship. Cook also carried portable broth made from cattle offal, forty bushels of malt, vinegar, mustard and concentrated citrus juice as additional anti-scurvy measures. He was running what was effectively the first controlled nutritional experiment in naval history across three years and 40,000 miles of ocean.

The sauerkraut psychology is the detail that stay with me in this story. Cook noticed that Dutch sailors suffered far less from scurvy than their British counterparts and observed that they carried barrels of sauerkraut. He ordered his ships to do the same but his British sailors refused the unfamiliar foreign food entirely. His solution was to serve it only to the officers while making sure they ate it visibly in front of the crew. Within weeks the sailors were demanding their share, and Cook understood that sailors suspicious of an unfamiliar food would eat it the moment they believed someone of higher status was being given something they were not.

Germany allowed legal sex changes in 1980, 37 years before it legalized same-sex marriage.

The Netherlands allowed legal sex changes in 1985, 16 years before it legalized same-sex marriage.

The UK introduced "gender recognition certificates" in 2004, 10 years before it legalized same-sex marriage. Avoiding the need for same-sex marriage was one of the rationales for GRCs in 2004.

Trans surgeries were performed in the United States in the 1950s. In 1966, the Johns Hopkins Gender Identity Clinic opened. That was 49 years before Obergefell.

I'm 43 now, and I've now seen three distinct phases in my life regarding attitudes towards gender/sex. Here's a handy guide for determining which one is the correct take:

1) Pre-1990ish: "Little Billy can't play with dolls b/c he's a boy and everyone knows boys don't play with dolls" ❌

2) 1990-2010: "Little Billy can play with dolls if he wants, boys can play with dolls. It doesn't make him any less of a boy" ✅

3) 2010 - Present : "Little Billy IS a girl because he plays with dolls, because everyone knows boys don't play with dolls" ❌

As we can see, #2 is the correct choice. #1 and #3 are examples of toxic right wing gender norms, and toxic left wing gender norms, respectively.

That's the funny thing about gender ideology; despite its adherents loud claims that they are somehow smashing traditional gender-based norms and stereotypes, they're actually rigidly enforcing them.

The truly enlightened viewpoint is that there is no right or wrong way to be a boy or girl and kids should feel free to explore and play with whatever they want without activists with an agenda slapping an inappropriate label on them and forcing them into a pathway towards lifelong medicalization and dependency on Big Pharma.

If you want proof that the letters LGB and TQ+ don’t belong together, look at the “shocking news” that the UK is now the worst country in Western Europe for LGBTQ+ rights.

There are three reasons for the low position in ILGA’s ranking:
* The UK has rejected attempts to introduce “Gender self-ID”.
* The UK Supreme Court has clarified that the terms “sex” and “sexual orientation” in equalities legislation are based on biological sex.
* The UK has severely curtailed sex denialist interventions (known by activists as “gender affirming care”) for minors.

All these points are good news for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. They have consolidated our rights and the meaning of homosexuality in UK law. They protect proto-gay children and LGB teens from harmful interventions.

The people who are angry about all this are those who think you can be “born in the wrong body”, “change sex” or simply choose whether you are a man or a woman, regardless of your biological sex.

They are the people who think some lesbians have penises.
They are the people who profit from adolescents’ distress by prescribing drugs that disrupt the endocrine system.
They are the deluded parents who think they must acquiesce in children’s demands.

The UK is forging ahead in re-establishing the rights of people whose sexual orientation is towards their own sex. I am immensely proud of all we have achieved - and delighted with the UK’s low position in ILGA’s gender-crazed rankings.
