@StuffForSisters I had a philosophy professor who believed that The Republic was an extra-canonical inspired work.

@john275426 @ICE_Elricus @TheeDrGroyper In fact, looking at the photo closer, I’m almost positive that is not the same room.

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@john275426 @ICE_Elricus @TheeDrGroyper Or at least, if they are of the same event, they are not in the same location or the location was changed between the photos.

@lukei4655 Moral wrong unless that deprivation violates an obligation owed to him?

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@lukei4655 Essentially, certain moral obligations are owed to man because he is made in the image of God.
And also, his dignity is expressed materially through certain material conditions, the deprivation of which prevent the full reflection of human dignity but does not constitute a

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@ICE_Elricus @TheeDrGroyper Are you sure those photos are from the same event? I.e. even if we accept that the person on the right is mother Teresa, are we sure that the person on the right is the person on the left?

@permatruck @TruckChudmore @PYeerk

@Aden_Beroya @uncle_deluge …is Claude alive?

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@Aden_Beroya @uncle_deluge He argued that human labor can create distinct substances, so that by the combination of various other things, one thing emerges.

So, a chair and even Dr. Pepper can be said to have a form. Perhaps there is a form of Claude. But form does not get you to soul. The question is…

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@scecclesia @EamonnClark Is prudential advice not in the realm of faith and morals, even if “what is a just punishment” is a moral question.
Again, just because healthcare is important doesn’t mean the Vatican can tell doctors which finger to use for colonoscopies.

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@scecclesia @EamonnClark That advice would not be “in the realm of faith and morals.”

Similarly, “the death penalty is morally permissible in certain cases, but even in those cases, alternative means of punishment are preferable…”

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@EamonnClark @scecclesia Yeah, if it’s merely a prudential judgement that Pope Francis is making, like “showering in the morning is better for your health than at night” or something, okay, I’ll take it under advisement, but I’m not sure it carries moral force.

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@WomanDefiner Is the argument that because traitors exist we should open the gates to the barbarians because the barbarians are no worse than traitors?

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@rykard_11 @MartinEqualsMe @Leophilius …exists, then it exists necessarily. This being, is what we refer to when we say God.”

[Rynold Wynterwade @Rywinterwade]

@rykard_11 @MartinEqualsMe @Leophilius So, the claim of the ontological argument is not “God is a kind of thing that exists necessarily, therefore God exists.”
It’s “There’s a distinction between essence and existence. It’s possible for something to exist without that distinction. If it’s possible that such a thing…
