@kyrib This is a low rank update, so an if and only if condition is the matrix determinant formula (aka Sherman Morrison Woodbury). Also you can try the Gershgorin circle theorem but that will probably be quite conservative.
Congratulations to our SIX ECE professors on their NSF CAREER Awards! The NSF CAREER Award is a prestigious award in support of early-career faculty.

When I was a PhD student, a professor told me:
"There are only three papers worth writing on a given topic: the first paper, the best paper, and the last paper."
It's obv a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I've often used the underlying heuristic to aid in choosing research directions.
Fake review hits too close to home:
"2. In the experiments, the authors only compare the results of the proposed certificate with the existing ones. It would be better if the authors can show the performance of the new certificate with respect to the state-of-the-art methods."
Here's a scary thought:

For the love of all that is good, please don't use this hastily in your own reviewing work.
What makes this funnier is that, in Germany, the "Prof." title requires a Habilitation as well as academic tenure. The "Dr." title just requires a doctoral thesis. 😂😂
Excited for my student Gavin to be presenting his first NeurIPS Spotlight on Thursday 7:30pm PST / 10:30pm EST entitled "How many samples is a good initial point worth in Low-rank Matrix Recovery?"

On the first day of my PhD, My advisor handed me Hamming’s infamous “A stroke of genius” article: https://t.co/DRDrGsT9NQ
I read it again once in a while, among others last night. Truly inspirational every time!
@efweinberger Wow, thanks. I didn't receive a "disregard that" email, but my coauthor did. Now the deadline really HAS been pushed back?? I think I'm going to do the same and email that info address.
NeurIPS folks: I'm so confused. Did they extend the Slideslive deadline to Nov 14? But the Slideslive site itself still saying deadline in 1 day?? #neurips2020
