one could ask why not compare it to the Schwarzman Building (with the lions). that building is a historic artifcat and it is not a "regular" lending library like the Biblioteca Cavasconcelos . you have to go through multiple security checks to get to the reading room.

Why can't we have nice things like Mexico City? In the newest massive NYC library (Stravos), you can't read/work without hearing the toilet loudly go off every few minutes. In the largest Brooklyn one (central), the redolence of poverty is ever-present.

This is what oligarchy is about. Today just 3 Wall Street firms, BlackRock, Vanguard & State Street manage $20.7 trillion in assets. These 3 firms are major shareholders in 95% of S&P 500 companies. Democracy will not survive with this concentration of economic & political power.
