@TheKouk long term investment in productive areas creates businesses, jobs and economic growth. Reduce the incentive to invest, and you reduce the capital flowing into the economy meaning fewer jobs, less innovation and lower living standards
@TheKouk Long term capital investment in productive areas creates businesses, jobs and economic growth. Reduce the incentive to invest, and you reduce the capital flowing into the economy meaning fewer jobs, less innovation and lower living standards. This hurts everyone!
@SteveWoosnam@DHughesy Legal, yes. Democratic, NO. A mandate secured by lying isn’t a democratic mandate at all. This is consent obtained by deception.
@ddonutssssss@day25 The CGT discount recognises a simple fact that long term investment in productive areas creates businesses, jobs and economic growth. Reduce the incentive to invest, and you reduce the capital flowing into the economy meaning fewer jobs, less innovation and lower living standards
BE THE WORST THAT YOU CAN BE?
Back in 1817 David Ricardo wrote of comparative advantage: each nation should do what it does best, and then trade with other nations – we sell them what we’re good at, and we buy what they’re good at
That allows each nation to be the best that it can be – and so the most prosperous it can be
And now this …
Liberation Day it ain’t
The US tariff rates are entirely mechanical: trade deficit in goods, divided by imports, then halved. And if that’s smaller than 10%, then you get 10% (which is how Australia got our 10% rate)
It’s hard to describe just how dumb that mechanical formula is, let alone how dumb the impact of all this will be
I’m in Vietnam, which was just hit with a 46% tariff. Small business people are reeling, and emotions are starting to rise
It’s all so astoundingly pointless. Sigh …
Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.
So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
@traderadio 18yr old Andrew McLeod (to Crows) for Chris Groom (to Freo). Chris had a 24 game career and ended up at North. McLeod went on to be a AFL Hall Of Fame member with 340 games, two premierships medals, two Norm Smith medals, five All-Australian jumpers.
@SilentGhost263 BZT walks if there is no deal…will never happen as the Bombers will take whatever is on offer (pick 30-40 most likely). Sinn won’t leave and is contracted. Duursma may leave but Port will only take a pick around 20 or BZT and 2nd rounder.
@Cornesy12@PAFC I’d be happy with 1 week, a fine would be best case scenario, but unlikely. Low impact due to open hand but the act is probably worthy of a week.
