Finding 751 more unmarked graves, and so close to Canada Day, is giving some pause to think how they will mark July 1st.

If we are genuinely committed to reconciliation, we have an opportunity to RE-CENTRE how we mark July 1st and honour a Nation-to-Nation relationship.

Today marks Juneteenth, a holiday that celebrates the emancipation of slaves in the US. Canada is not free from a history of slavery.

Earlier this year, MPs in the House of Commons voted unanimously to designate August 1st as emancipation day, a national holiday.

The quicker we can face the racism embedded in our society, the faster we can stop the continued destruction of lives.
