@shakoistsLog@ContraPoints all of the """leftists"" i know seem to think that we can't set technological goals until we do socialism. hopefully we'll vote in that socialism soon, because space sure is neat.
@McgillivaryIan@ContraPoints there are manufacturing processes that are better done in a vacuum, and large structures are very difficult or impossible to get into orbit, so it makes more sense to build or assemble them in space.
@ArcanesValor@mmjukic it's OK writing. if you've read enough documentation, you know just how awful it can be. everything in the screenshot is dense, precise, and succinct, meaning that it's easy to interpret and quick to re-read when needed.
@HououinTyouma it also means that the largest group of researchers on the planet (the chinese) will not be allowed access to cutting edge models. the progress in biology/medicine lost because of this would probably be immeasurable. it's megalomaniacal.
@matthewstoller i don't particularly care about profitability but pretending the product itself is not the most groundbreaking technological breakthrough in our lifetimes is flat-earther tier nonsense.
@PEIZHEQI@commiepommie@AmyR___9090 that's very cool, but it's still not a flat plane v8, and still not something i care about in a sports car. sounds great for a daily driver though.
@ErezMaggor@ryangrim@pasupdates the correct way to go about this would have been to throw tens of billions at Intel foundries, and force nvidia, qualcomm, apple, etc to utilize a minimum % of their capacity, ensuring a real domestic competitor. they're still too ideologically bankrupt for that though.
@ErezMaggor@ryangrim@pasupdates the chips act was still contingent on a bunch of dumb bullshit. OK idea, absolutely miserable implementation, and it ended with the guy who was pushing Intel foundries getting "retired", alongside the company nearly being split and raided.
@GuyDealership recently was given a Grand Wagoneer as a rental. it was as loud on the highway as my wife's '24 Trax. the shitty v8 felt and sounded like a tractor compared to the ancient UZ in my LS430. i have no idea why anyone would ever buy a stellantis product, much less one for 6 figures.
@x_spinoza@teortaxesTex ok, so after we get agi, how do we "beat" china? what's the win condition over what Dario calls authoritarianism? do you think they'll just roll over and do what we say because we have agi a year before they do? will they have democratic elections because we ask nicely?
@Miles_Brundage yeah i have started calling it "capability theater". benchmarks tell us that it's just another iterative jump, of which there will be many from all sides.
