Every transaction is paid for at least three times. First, with the money you pay. Second, with the time you spend. Third, with the reputation you create through your behavior.

Being pleasant, reliable, and easy to work with might cost you a little more time. Perhaps even a bit of extra money. But the long-term returns from a great reputation usually outweigh the cost of a single transaction.

I think this is the key to solving a lot of problems in Africa. It will also create more employment and productivity. Those men who built the house for the young married people in the village also got food and palm wine as they worked. Everyone was happy.

I am just thinking. GoFundMe assumes that you have cash to give. Most Africans do not. What if you can give in kind or in the form of a task or service and it is then monetized to the person who needs it?

When I was growing up, we always went on holiday to my mother’s village. My grandma’s neighbor’s son got married and needed a new house. The men in the community gathered around and built it for them with their bare hands. Many cultures around the world still do this.

Mark Court might have the most niche job in the world.

Of the 2,000+ people that work at Rolls Royce, he is the only person allowed to paint pinstripes on the cars.

He uses a squirrel-fir brush and it takes 3 hours for one vehicle.

It’s a high pressure job because Court — who makes six-figures — is the final step of the manufacturing process.

A mistake requires a new paint job and delays delivery of the car (which start at $300k but easily tops $1m with upgrades).

Formerly a sign painter, Court rarely takes time off because he says he doesn’t want to “lose focus”.

He also doesn’t want to know the car’s owner.

“If you start worrying about who owns them or where it’s going, it’ll play with your mind,“ he once told AutoJosh. “Then you’ll never do it. You just got to be able to learn to shut off and do what you need to do.”

Does Court actually have the most niche job in the world? Maybe.

Triboulet was a jester for Louis XII, the King of France from 1498 to 1515. He is perhaps most famous for slapping the king on the butt. This act greatly angered the king, and he threatened to have Triboulet executed. After taking a moment to calm down, the king decided to spare Triboulet's life if he could think of an apology that was more offensive than what he had just done to the king.

Triboulet went on to say, "I'm so sorry, your majesty, that I didn't recognize you! I mistook you for the Queen!" While Triboulet's response was clever and indeed more offensive, it broke an order that prohibited anyone from making fun of the queen. The king decided to proceed with the execution but allowed Triboulet to choose how he would die. With his life on the line, Triboulet replied, "Good sire, for Saint Nitouche's and Saint Pansard's sake, patrons of insanity, I choose to die from old age."

The speechless king could do nothing but laugh. He canceled the execution and decided to banish Triboulet.
