OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS APPREHEND ANOTHER FOREIGN TERRORIST FIGHTER, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN BORNO

Troops of Sector 4 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), while sustaining aggressive counter-terrorism operations across the North East Theatre, have apprehended another foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant during a security operation in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State.

The operation, was carried out by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m on 19 July 2026, as part of ongoing intelligence driven operations in the North East Theatre. During the operation, troops arrested one Musa Fashir, 32 years old Sudanese national suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator. Preliminary intelligence indicates that the suspect has established links with terrorist elements, further highlighting attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region.

Additionally, troops also apprehended Mary Florence 36 years, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from Republic of Ghana. The circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims are currently under investigation.

Both suspects are in military custody undergoing preliminary profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities, and ascertain any possible links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

The successful arrests further demonstrate the effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI’s intelligence-driven operations and the vigilance of troops in denying terrorists and their collaborators freedom of action. The operation also highlights the Theatre’s unwavering commitment to disrupting terrorist support networks, preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters, and safeguarding communities across the North East.

Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in its mandate to neutralise terrorists and dismantle their logistics, financing and support networks. Members of the public are encouraged to sustain their support by providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as collective vigilance remains critical to the restoration of lasting peace and security and stability in the North East.

Reflections on My 65th Birthday

Today, July 19, 2026, marks my 65th birthday. At sixty-five, birthdays should naturally become moments of deep reflection - moments to look back with gratitude to Almighty God for His abundant graces, examine the journey so far, and ask how the remaining years can be devoted more meaningfully to the service of God and humanity.

Perhaps in countries where basic human needs have largely been met, where institutions function effectively, and where citizens enjoy a greater measure of security and dignity, such attainments may rightly call for elaborate celebrations. In Nigeria, however, our reality compels a different kind of reflection.

Our nation is blessed with enormous human and natural resources, yet millions of our people continue to struggle with challenges that demand our collective attention. We cannot afford to celebrate ourselves excessively while many around us are burdened by poverty, ill health, unemployment, and limited opportunities. Rather, occasions such as this should remind us of our responsibility to contribute towards building a nation where future generations can genuinely celebrate.

This is why I have always seen birthdays not merely as occasions for personal celebration, but as opportunities for sober reflection, thanksgiving, and a renewed commitment to service.

As I reflected today, I came to a simple conclusion: the greatest celebration of life is not what we receive from others, but the lives we can touch positively.

This conviction has guided my approach throughout my years in business, in the corporate world, and as Governor of Anambra State. In each of these roles, I have tried to see every privilege not as a personal entitlement but as an opportunity to improve the lives of others.

Whenever people or institutions sought to celebrate me with expensive gifts or elaborate ceremonies, I encouraged them instead to redirect those resources towards projects that would have a lasting impact. Over the years, this philosophy has resulted in the building of schools, hostel blocks, support to schools, and other facilities that continue to benefit the less privileged. I have always believed that resources meant for personal comfort can often be transformed into instruments of hope for many.

The greatest honour anyone can receive is not found in gifts, ceremonies, or public admiration, but in knowing that one’s life has contributed, however modestly, to making another person’s life better.

Today, therefore, I give thanks to Almighty God for the gift of life and for bringing me to this important milestone of 65 years. I began the day with a Mass of Thanksgiving in Onitsha, thanking God for His grace, protection, guidance, and the countless blessings He has bestowed upon me over the years.

After the Mass, I proceeded to St. Raphael’s Hospital, Umueri, a small rural hospital in Anambra East Local Government Area. In furtherance of my belief that birthdays should be occasions for service rather than self-indulgence, I donated the sum of ₦10 million to support the hospital’s work of providing quality healthcare to the people.

As I was conducted around the hospital and saw patients in their moments of vulnerability, I was reminded again of our shared humanity. Some of those receiving care may not even have the financial means to settle their hospital bills, yet they deserve compassion, dignity, and access to quality healthcare. Their condition was a reminder that leadership, in its truest form, is about caring for people, especially those who cannot repay our kindness.

Hospitals and schools remain two of the greatest investments any society can make. A hospital preserves life; a school shapes the future. Supporting both is, therefore, not just an act of charity - it is an investment in humanity and in the future of our nation.

EFCC Arraigns Former MD Of Warri Refinery for Alleged N1.339bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned the former Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd, Jimoh Olasunkanmi Yisawu before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for alleged money laundering to the tune of N1.339 (One Billion, Three Hundred and Thirty-Nine Thousand Naira).

He was arraigned on Monday, July 20, 2026 on an eight-count charge of alleged money laundering.

Count one of the charges reads: "That you Jimoh Olasunkanmi Yisawu, the former Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd between October, 2023 and May, 2025 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court indirectly converted the aggregate sum of $789, 950 (Seven Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars) through Samaila Bala which amount did not form part of your known lawful earning as a former public officer with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (formerly Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) when you knew that the said sum of $789,950 constituted proceeds of unlawful activity and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 (8) (b) and punishable under Section 18(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022."

Count three reads: "That you Jimoh Olasunkanmi Yisawu, the former Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd between February, 2024 and March, 2025 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court indirectly converted through Rasheed Olaitan Yusuf of Rasheedat Anike Global Ventures the aggregate sum of $122,600 (One Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Six Hundred United States Dollars) which did not form part of your known lawful earning as a former public officer with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (formerly Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) when you knew that the said sum of $122,600 constituted proceed of unlawful activity and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(2) (b) and punishable under Section 18(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022."

Count six reads: "That you Jimoh Olasunkanmi Yisawu the former Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd on or about the 21st of February, 2024 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, indirectly transferred the sum of N65, 860, 000 (Sixty Five Million, Eight Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira) to Cordros Securities Limited for the purchase of treasury bills for yourself when you reasonably ought to have known that the said sum constituted proceeds of unlawful activity and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(2) (b) and punishable under Section 18(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022."

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read to him, prompting his counsel, Wale Balogun, SAN to pray the court to grant his client bail, promising that he will always be available in court for trial.

Subsequently, EFCC’s lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN told the court he had filed a 17- paragraph affidavit asking the court to deny the defendant bail citing the seriousness of the alleged offence.

Upon hearing the submissions of both parties, Justice Ekwo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000.000 (Five Hundred Million Naira) and a surety in like sum. He said the surety must be a responsible citizen and owner of landed property within the jurisdiction of the court. He directed the court registrar to verify the property and ensure the deposit of the original papers of the property with the court.

Two brothers. Two bicycles. A trail of supplies allegedly headed toward ISWAP fighters.

That was the picture troops of Operation HADIN KAI uncovered during a farm protection patrol in the Nzuda area of Damboa, Borno State.

Soldiers from 19 Battalion (Mechanised) and 25 Task Force Brigade Garrison intercepted Audu Abdullahi, 25, and Shettima Abdullahi, 30, both from Kasabalari village. Preliminary investigation reportedly linked the brothers to the movement of logistics toward suspected terrorists operating around Wajiroko.

The recovered items tell an important story: bicycles and spare tyres, pesticide containers, medication, a small solar panel, a rechargeable torch, mobile phone and SIM cards, locally made knives and other supplies.

Individually, some of these materials may appear ordinary. In an insurgency theatre, however, logistics keep terrorist cells mobile, connected and operational.

This is why disrupting supply networks matters.

Terrorists do not survive on weapons alone. They depend on couriers, food, medicine, communication equipment, batteries, transportation and people willing to move these materials through communities.

Every suspected supply route exposed reduces their ability to regroup, treat injured fighters, maintain hideouts and threaten farmers.

The troops deserve commendation for combining farm protection duties with alert intelligence work. Protecting agricultural communities is not only about guarding fields. It also requires identifying the hidden networks that make attacks possible.

The suspects and recovered items are now in military custody for further investigation. Due process must follow, but the operational message is already clear:

Cut the supply lines.
Protect the farms.
Isolate the terrorists.
Keep the pressure unbroken.

The battle against insurgency will not be won only by confronting gunmen in the forest. It will also be won by dismantling the quiet networks that sustain them.
