@RobertMwhoron@jwcoetzee@piratesrugga I’ll have to fly it back with my old man, when he comes back to SA after coming over in feb! Sorry it’ll be a bit of a wait, but hope it’ll be worth it!
Some interesting takes I don't think most are even aware of:
- The Springboks lost Bongi in the first 3 minutes of the game which meant their replacement hooker that was supposed to replace Marx during a match was now out.
- They had to rely on their third choice, Deon Fourie, who only ever started as a Hooker for his country in a Test Match during the World Cup... and if that isn't enough to play almost a full 80 minutes against the All Blacks in a World Cup Final.
- They lost the edge of dominating at the lineouts and the scrums due to the above and the rain caused the scrum dominance to be nullified. No point in trying to scrum the opposition for a penalty if you run the risk of sliding on a wet field and giving a penalty or the ball away.
- The All Blacks were down to 14 men for most of the match but the Springboks also had 20 minutes where they were down to 14 men.
- They managed to keep the All Blacks scoreless for the last 24 minutes of the match. (This is unheard of).
The above just makes this win so much more special and spectacular. It might not have been the most attractive game of Rugby but strategically it was one of the best I have ever watched.

You still don't get it.
62m South Africans beat you last week.
62m South Africans raised that cup with Siya.
62m South Africans woke up world champions today.
We call it country duty. If you still can't compute, just walk away. It's beyond you.
We love Pollard and he is among the greatest ever.
But Libbok deserves special mention. Won 8/9 Test matches he started in 2023.
Carried the Springboks through a period where fans thought we had no chance without Handre.
All in his first international season 👏
