My first first-author paper from my Ph.D., with
@tlinksvayer, is out in @CurrentBiology!!!
We find that haplodiploidy alone does not explain the evolution of eusociality in insects.

Aristotle was the first to notice honeybees dancing. In 1927 Karl von Frisch decoded the waggle. How it works was "explained" by MV Srinivasan AM FRS in the 1990s. Except @NeuroLuebbert found his papers are junk. A ๐งต about her discovery & our report: https://t.co/K0rpDPnfop 1/
A new paper claiming a simple model of genetics fit a range of social traits. Itโs interesting data, but itโs a massive reach to say the model fit reflects genetic effects, as thereโs no control for environment here. 1/n
Always rewarding when the training pays off! Proud of @sachi1n and @tlinksvayer joining the #evodevo train with their first HCR ๐ Much more to come in the future!
We didn't observe any costs of infection, at least not under lab conditions. This seems to suggest that Wolbachia has a fitness-enhancing effect and maybe a nutritional symbiont in this ant species!

Here's a Pharoh ant colony to bless your feed
Really happy to be a part of this project, led by the amazing @Rohini_S! We investigated the effect of Wolbachia infection on several life-history traits in Pharaoh ants ๐๐ฆ
tldr: Wolbachia infection extends the lifespan of Pharaoh ant workers!
