A new paper claiming a simple model of genetics fit a range of social traits. It’s interesting data, but it’s a massive reach to say the model fit reflects genetic effects, as there’s no control for environment here. 1/n

We didn't observe any costs of infection, at least not under lab conditions. This seems to suggest that Wolbachia has a fitness-enhancing effect and maybe a nutritional symbiont in this ant species!

tldr: Wolbachia infection extends the lifespan of Pharaoh ant workers!

Surprisingly, group-level survival of infected workers was higher than uninfected ones, but this was not the case for queens!
